Re: The central belter

Enjoy. Yes, the first section of the climb to Dumyat is a mess, the upper section is fine. But the first part of the descent is brutal in wet conditions, so good choice. Glen Ample is wonderful, it's a steep climb but all ok with gears (: Please let me know what you think once you've done it, really...

Bikepacking Survey

Hi there, it would be great to get your opinion. I am working with the Argyll and the Isles Tourism Co-operative (AITC), supported by Scottish Natural Heritage and the Forestry Commission Scotland, to create a new bikepacking route in the west of Scotland. I would be interested in more details on yo...

Re: The central belter

I have ridden it all the way. So far the only one I think. It doesn't use NCN 7 all the way, I did a few tweaks, please use the most up-to-date route. The section around Dumyat is great, there's a nice and cheap hostel in Callander. Glen Ample is great riding, but was pretty wet when I cycled it, bu...

Re: The central belter

Hi everyone, I have just updated the Central Belter section on the Bikepacking Scotland website, the latest route is now online. A few sections might still change, I will be riding the bit from the A9 to Montrose on the weekend, and the route from St Andrews to Lower Largo is provisional as well. Wi...

Re: The central belter

The provisional route for this is now here: http://www.gpsies.com/map.do?fileId=uusnvjhzfftcqxjs I am looking for another 80km to add, likely to be from Callander to Drymen and along the Loch Lomond shore to Inversnaid, and back over Glen Finglass to Callander, and then continuing on the route as ma...

Re: Central Belter mass start date (?)

I have just updated the description of the GPSies track group. The actual start date has changed to 9 September, a mix up on my side, Saturday is better to start. As for the route, it'll be a surprise, there's excellent off-road riding in the West Lothian area, and the route in the South will be ext...

Re: Capital Trail Entries open Fri 20 March

That will be the opening for entries, maybe a winter edition for the hardy ones? Tougher than the puffer?

Re: Capital Trail Entries open Fri 20 March

First pictures are here, there's more to come. Great bunch of people, glad people loved the route. The approach to Edinburgh will change, I have a great route in mind already which basically cuts out all of the city riding at the end. Have a look here https://www.flickr.com/photos/reizkultur/sets/72...

Re: Highland Trail 2015

Howdy folks, here is my packing list from this year, the winter gear did a fab job in those temperatures. Only items not used were the summer socks, the spork (to cold to eat a whole pot of yoghurt in Ullapool like last year), sunscreen, Smidge, and fortunately there was no need to change tubes, the...

Re: Capital Trail Entries open Fri 20 March

The route is now featured on Pedalling Nowhere, have a look here. http://www.pedalingnowhere.com/locations/western-europe/ I will ride the whole thing, toothache permitting, on Monday and Tuesday, and will revise route finally if needed, and also mark some good spots to bivy on the GPX. There is als...
