Drumbeg: vaguely exciting.

So no worries then about the Bank Holiday. Cool.

So I see Monday 29th is a Bank Holiday. Should I stock up extra in Contin on Sunday?

Re: HT550 - 2017

Anybody know where I should locate Duchally Lodge, with the locked gate? It's supposed to be in the northern loop, but I can't locate it on the map.

Interesting. Anybody any tips for repellents? Or will a headnet and arm-/legwarmers do?

Re: HT550 - 2017

Wow, it is dry then. A little rain wouldn't hurt. Hope this blows over in the coming weeks. Wouldn't want to find myself near a wildfire.

Re: HT550 - 2017

Is the path of a 1000 puddles the beauty that goes allong the Hydro bothy, and ends just before Contin? Well, it looks that if it will rain for the next three weeks, the ground can still absorp most of the water. ;-) Looks a lot better then two years ago, when around this time the wet conditions wer...

Re: HT550 - 2017

Thank you Whitestone. No need to make this trip more expensive then needed.

Does anybody know how in general the conditions on the route are at the moment? 'Normal', or very dry, wet, boggy, etcetera?

Re: HT550 - 2017

Can anybody tell me how the new parts of the route are? Does the new route get me faster into Fort Augustus? I did a write up at http://niksbikingblog.blogspot.co.uk/2016/05/highland-trail-2016-recce.html I think the new route is faster, but you still have to "not hang about" to get to th...

Re: HT550 - 2017

Another top tip is to make sure you get to the Oykel Bridge hotel before all the other greedy bastards on day 2 When I got there in 2015 at 10 pm I found three bikes parked outside and their riders inside, stuffing their guts with big plates of steaming food. Then I was told there was no more food ...

Re: B&M USB Werk

Thanks Mariner. Actually my friend doesn't have his USB Werk anymore. He works at my LBS and send it to B&M for repair. It was send back, but the other guys at the store didn't know it was his and sold it. So now he doesn't have an usb charger anymore. I just ordered an USB Werk today, so ...

B&M USB Werk

A quick question about the B&M USB Werk, to which I couldn't find an answer with the search function: is it sturdy/solid enough to use during bikepackingtrips on rough mtb-tracks? A friend of mine broke his USB Werk during a rough descent (loose contact probably), so I was wondering if this is j...

Re: Dyno hub usb charger dark art stuff....

Interesting stuff. I'm also looking for a usb charger and considering a B&M USB Werk because of the build in buffer battery. Can the B&M withstand the shocks off rough mountainbike trails? I'm asking because a friends USB Werk broke down during a bikepacking trip over rough descends.

I'm counting over 30 finished, only 8 scratched, all on the 7th day in? Awsome results! But what is going on over there? Somebody spiked the water?

I'm a bit lost on the fences with locked gates. As long as I follow the track I should find the gates, mostly open, in one case locked?

German forests pack a lot of these, aspecially along long distance walking routes. Great for sleeping.

Quick question about shelters: of course there are some bothies, but are there also shelters like these along the route? http://www.baumgeist-unterwegs.info/hin ... um_06.html

Re: Highland Trail 2015

Thanks. Contin is about 240 km's in, so I'm planning to pass there somewhere on Sunday (hope this is realistic). Good to know the shop is open until 18.00. That's what the internet says as well.

Except the hotel in Oykel Bridge and the Overscaig Hotel there's nothing until Baddidarach/Lochinver?

Re: Highland Trail 2015

Quick question about drinking "wild water" along the route. Off course there are the general rules off only drinking water from small, cool, clear streams, without dead animals or droppings, but do you use any means of purification, like drops, tables or a small filter?
