Re: Any London based folk keen for a weekend winter campout?

How about you guys in the Southeast set off up the Southdowns Way and us guys in the west set off down the SDW?
Best to have a defined place where access to food and drink could be available plus space to bivvy.
Same could apply to Kennet and Avon route or possibly Ridgeway?
Just a thought.

Re: Remote diagnostics corner

On the other hand my first FSB ripped the rear derailleur right off the bike and as the hanger was an integral part of the frame bent it out at 45 degrees.
Never made a sound until it went bang.

I'll be using a Schmidt SON 28 for the BB200.

Be interested to hear what set up you are using for battery charging and direct charging.

Looks like weather might be good.
Is there a public tracker website for those using SPOTs?
Enjoy.

Re: Remote diagnostics corner

I had similar but intermittent all gears. Give it some wellie and all sorts of odd noises. Stop pedaling to see what is happening it stops. Finally took it to 'Mr Fish' the local bike doctor who fixed it by re- aligning the rear brake caliper. Now try as I can I cannot see a relationship between the...

Re: Whats oiling your gears?

Interesting as there seems to be a lot of mythology about chain lube. My understanding is/was that dry is for summer and wet is for winter and in order to change between the two you had to give the chain a good soak to degrease/clean it before applying new. Even heard of people having two chains one...

Whats oiling your gears?

Now that the season of rain and mud is here does anyone change their chain lubricant from 'dry' to wet? Never been a fan of dry myself having been brought up on 3 in 1 bike oil. Actually tried to buy some back in the summer and had a yoof explain to the old duffer that oil was now synthetic or organ...

Went to the Crikey, how much outlet store today in Shepton Mallet with the wife on the way to a ride. I'd told her that "Apparently its top notch kit from what I'm hearing". She walked in and had a chat to the guy behind the counter, Brilliant ploy well done top marks I see what you did a...

Re: Todays ride

Finally made it to Starcross and back. Things I learned: I can now ride up to the top of the big hill to get out of town using the loose rutted gnarly tracks round the back of the golf course without having to push. Its not as boring a ride as I first thought. Best way through Topsham is the lower r...

Nearly every bike shop across the land will have an account with Ison though.

This explains why I can buy Apidura off the shelf in LBS. Any other brand I have to buy online.

My Eureka Spitfire Solo is on the scales at 1.9kgs and 400 x 140 packed.
They have larger versions and I think the Solo has been updated.
Less than £80ish delivered.
I am thinking the unthinkable for some gear now. Buy cheap and treat it as disposable replace when broke/worn out.

Nevis - yes. Some days I do Salcombe hill as well on the coastal path with a carry up the steps through the woods.

Benp1 - I find it a natural motion when standing and pedaling.

I only go the two gears because of loss of momentum and fear of stalling.
I will try a two shift pedal some and two shift pattern next time.
Thanks.

Distance = 0.9 mile. A massive achievement. A milestone. An ambition achieved. It also included 616 feet of climbing. That’s 616 feet in 0.9 mile. In the two years since we moved here never been able to get further than a third of the way up. The deal with myself was if I can’t make it I have to mov...
