Re: Very OT - no poo
Not had a haircut since Feb 2020 so sporting quite a main at present. If I don't use shampoo and just let it get wet in the shower then it looks like I have used brylcreem. (Younger readers may have to google that.) How long before you get yours cut Dave? Mines driving me mad. Gets in my eyes when I...

Re: Train advice, king Alfred way
Depending on conditions you might be advised to clean your bike for the return trip. A Southern Rail guard was less than pleased about the state of mine coming back from SDW and said he wouldn't have let me on if he had seen me at the station (?). I had tried to clean it but all I had was a jay clot...

Re: Bars WTD
Might have a spare set of Stooge Motos in the lockup but it'll be a few days before I can check. Soma Dream are a good shout. Have those on a couple of bikes and they're very comfortable. Thanks that would be great. Saw the Soma bars for the first time today and in a way might be my first choice. A...

Re: Todays ride
First day it was not lashing with rain on Wednesday so went for the tentative ride for first time in several weeks. Just round the block type of bimble. Went well so tried a hill to see how fit I was and managed it without using lowest gear. When I reached the junction where it is right to head back...

What ever you choose have a back up. I lost my new Sealskinz gloves going up the Corrieyairack Pass and that is a long descent with fingerless mitts for a SSJ like me. Ouch, I think I would have dug out some spare socks to use as mitts  Spare socks :o Now who's a SSJ? edit I wasn't able ...

Re: 'Modern' long geo frames with Jones bars?
Just in the process of switching back to Loops. I built the bike up with a 50mm stem but the Loops didn,t work so tried a Selcof carbon which is fine.
Andrew recommended a 70mm stem for the Stooge so if/when I get one I will change back to the Loops.

Watched a programme on Frank Zappa on Sky Arts yesterday so today I had a rainy day trip down memory lane visiting his back catalogue.
In particular the Hot Rats album, Zappa and Beefheart at their most lyrical.

Looking for a Stem 70mm X 31.8 1-1/8 X4 Black. Re: Anyone used large Carradice pack for off road?
I replaced my half frame bag with a Barley and a Bagman last year for lock down pottering. One of my routes involves a very narrow elevated footbridge so I am now able to get my shoulder under the top tube to get across and carry a civilised picnic or TMS with me. It is permanently mounted but does ...

Have a look at the Euro Velo website. https://en.eurovelo.com/ Via Francigena looks a likely candidate other than that search VTT France and try and join some routes up. Also look at canal and river routes. If you were starting say Marseille you could go north into Switzerland then pick up the Rhine...

The last ten years or so I have been covering up during the summer with the winter riding clothing but with less layers. Typically, a long-sleeved top (BB obvs), gloves, long shorts, tall ankle socks all to keep the sun off. I also go to the Mole Clinic every year except last year there wasn’t one. ...

Re: UK (off road / gravel) Rides with Tons of Climbing?
There are events starting to open like Devon Grit and Dorset Grit.
Choice of route length and people/clock to race against.
Have a google around see what comes up.
I know the area where the Devon Grit route is so lots of climbing on the long route.

Re: Saddle bag suggestions for bike with limited saddle to wheel clearance please
I have a Carradice Bagman strategically positioned on the back of my saddle rails using the bend in the rails to angle it up and lift the bag (Carradice obvs) clear of the mudguard I use through the winter.
If it had not worked I would have fettled the Bagman to make it work.

Or how about something similar to the bird song identifier but for use in the dark so you know what is creeping round your bivvy at night?
Should include Fox, Badger, Deer, Axe Murderer.
Hedgehogs are the worst though.

Anyone else experienced this? Welcome to getting old - it's like being blamed for something you didn't do. Strangely enough the one thing I find that stops that temporarily is riding my bike. A really really long ride say 50 Kms + sorts things out for a week or so or shorter rides more freq...
