Re: Bikepacking with Children Ideas.

We have been on the Mawddach cycle trail, it's good but we had a bad experience with the campsite that it on the route which spoilt our holiday there. It would be ok if you are on the top campsite with the facilities but if you are on one of pitches a big distance away with no close drinking water o...

Bikepacking with Children Ideas.

I'm thinking about starting bikepacking with my 8 year old daughter and looking for ideas. She has a islabike cnoc bike with a pannier rack which I attach a alpkit bag so at least she can carry some warmer clothes and panda. She's now used to doing this. She normally rides her own bike and if she do...

Re: The best way to learn to read/navigate with a map?

Do some proper orienteering with an orienteering club. As well as being b.....dy hard your fitness will be put to the test. I have always been pretty fit and thought I was until I started with n orienteering group and even the over 50s completely trampled me. Took me a year and a half to get to the ...

Re: Gaiters

Orienteering gaiters are good, also called bramble bashers. Lot slimmer and lighter than normal walking gaiters and longer than the ankle gaiters. Still got a few pairs from my orienteering days.

When you said purple and blue I thought you meant the clothing. Until I went to look at your blog. Really like reading cycling blogs but found the colours too hard to read that it distracted from your content, shame as you have put a lot of effort into writing. Had to give up after a while as it mad...

I have decided to buy a pair of shimano MT 91 boots. http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/mobile/shimano-mt91-mtb-spd-boots-2015/rp-prod47344 I wanted a winter boot but did not shout cycling that I can use off the bike and looks less cycle specific when I take my daughter out on her bike as well. I'm ...

Re: Boots advise and not the chemist.

I tried sealskin socks and never got on with them feet still got cold. I now wear pure merino wool and even when wet so much better. Sealskin and merino would work, but I would need one or two size larger shoes. As I can only get one pair on will my current shoes. I might as well get a pair of purpo...

Boots advise and not the chemist.

I normally wear a pair of specialized MTB shoes for my commute to work on the fixed. In this sort of weather that's fine for 30 mins with neoprene covers on. However I found with my ride over the chase my feet got a little chilli and they were not great for grip in the mud either. If I am to do some...

Re: Cannock Chase ride

Normally when I'm out for a MTB ride I use a rucksac, but what I am finding is that I prefer to have the bikepacking bags on my bike. In particular the seat pack. On my last ride I put a down jacket in and a few other warm items and also my pump. I had my tool kit in a feed bag. It seems so much les...

Cannock Chase ride

Just a few pictures from today's ride over cannock chase. Just testing some kit out. Bought a feed bag from alpkit and was concerned that my knee would hit it but today found that it is no issue at all. In fact it was ideal keeping my tea flask on hand when it got too cold. Also realised that my neo...

If you don't mind a little wait (custom made) I keep recommending these - http://zpacks.com/quilts/sleepingbag.shtml . Large variety of sizes. Comes in green, green or green. I use the -1C/397gram medium/regular width version and it does what it says on the tin. Greetz S. Nice, but a bit too much m...

Re: Buying bits and pieces for bikepackin?

I'm learning lots, thanks.

I'm leaning towards a winter quilt, if it's too hot in the summer then I can use my vango bag.

Now do I wait and see what alpkits quilts are like? Decisions?

I like the prices as well, much more reasonable than a mummy bag.

Re: Buying bits and pieces for bikepackin?

Interesting. I also have a synmat ul 7, which I like as also a side sleeper. With the quilt, are they long enough to put around your head a little to keep your neck warm? I must say that when I am in a sleeping bag I dislike pulling the hood tight around my head. So maybe a quilt might be the way to...

Buying bits and pieces for bikepackin?

Hi, I've been getting a few bags and testing them out on day rides. Learning how to fit and where is the best place to put items. I've already got a vango ultralight helium 200 so I won't be getting a tarp at the moment as the tent needs more use. I also have a vango venom 400 down bag which I have ...

I live in the area, takes me 15 mins to get to marquis drive visitor centre. At the moment I am just trying to fit the wildcat bar bags, I might post a picture to my Flickr site, I've given trying to put on here as I do not have access to a comp at the moment. https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7582/15...
