Re: AK mytimug 400 or 650

Been a long term cyclist, walker and camper but only really just getting into bikepacking. So what I have found in packing my bikepacking gear is where to put your kit on your bike. I've got a snowpeak titanium pot with a small pot on the outside of the bigger pot. Sorry can't remember it's l but if...

Re: Long mynd Shropshire area. Routes etc

So these are good but not really aimed at bike packing. Generally apart from the obvious ITT routes, etc there really aren't any. But all I can find in road only cycling routes, MTB only routes which seem to be concentrated on long mynd and bridleways routes for horsey types. Can you not just join ...

Re: Long mynd Shropshire area. Routes etc

Thanks for the ideas for routes. I'm going to put my own route together but can anyone point me in the direction for selection of routes that will have a GPX file attached. I can link bridleways with roads and some off road bits. But all I can find in road only cycling routes, MTB only routes which ...

Re: Smart Phone GPS Logging App?

View ranger also has a 'buddy' logging system.

I've not used it myself, but I believe this is what mountain rescue use view ranger for.

I think it logs your position/route and sends a live feed back to other people that you choose that also have view ranger.
I suppose a bit like a spot tracker.

Re: Smart Phone GPS Logging App?

I use view ranger app which has been really good. Can use free maps but I have downloaded OS maps. I have a waterproof hard case on my bars that holds my IPhone. This is then charged via a battery that connect to my sp Dynamo. Really good system and view ranger works well with this. You can transfer...

Bikepacking Cannock Chase? Anyone?

Cannock chase is my local, but I've never seen anyone with bikepacking gear.

Has anyone done it?

I find the chase good away from the trails and remember it before any trails were even thought of.

Long mynd Shropshire area. Routes etc

Looking to join up some good bikepacking routes in the long mynd area. Not just long mynd itself but surrounding area too.

Would be most helpful as planning a weekend next weekend.

Could you suggest good areas, routes or bridleways, happy to join up country lanes.

So they had better be ok, or else

Re: Winters coming, whats on your feet?

I've got a pair of the shimano MTB boots, I was a bit sceptical of them. But I'm really surprised how comfortable they are, nice and warm and great to walk in as well but nice and stiff for cycling. Also look good for pubs or cafes and not looking like a full on cyclist. I use them with crankbrother...

I've got a cumulus quilt but I must be quite a cold sleeper, as I find its just not warm enough. I had a expend ul7 mat but upgraded this to a downmat which I hope will help, this arrived a few days ago. Also to extend the use of my quilt instead of buying a more expensive sleeping bag, I have recei...

I've ordered a pair of Continental race kings 2.2 26" from chain reaction for £40 which includes my British cycling discount.

So I shall see how I get on with those.

Re: Can I talk about tyres? For rigid frame and forks.

They look a good tyre, good weight and a good price. But do you think they would be wide enough to take the buzz out of the trail on a rigid fork? I have them fitted F&R to my rigid Inbred with Salsa forks. As I say, they have quite a large volume so when run at the appropriate pressure certain...

Re: Can I talk about tyres? For rigid frame and forks.

My favourite 'bikepacking tyre' is the Conti' 2.2 Race King. Actually comes up much bigger than you'd think, rolls very well and offers much more grip than you'd believe from looking at the tread ... the only issue is their hit and miss ability to be set-up tubeless. They look a good tyre, good wei...

Forget about specialised local store has almost none of the 26 tyres.

I am seeming to find that it is slightly harder to get a good variety of quality 26" tyres in shops.

Only place seems to be on line.

I've been looking at Schwalbe tyres and also the Maxxis tyres which seem to have a following in bikepacking. Well with America at least as I am finding it difficult to get reviews of bikepacking tyres in the UK. Also has anyone used specialized tyres for bikepacking. I've got a specialized store nea...

Can I talk about tyres? For rigid frame and forks.

I've had Panaracer Fire XC pro 2.1 for years but since I've got into bike packing and now have a rigid salsa fork, so I can carry gear, the panaracers are a little uncomfortable. I've been doing lots of searches on the web for tyres that would be good for UK bikepacking loaded riding. I know people ...

Probably cheaper and you can choose what you want in your kit if you just put your own first aid kit together. The problem with buying a purpose made waterproof kit is it will have items that you just won't need and you will have to add to it anyway. This is my waterproof alpkit kit https://flic.kr/...

I've got this setup with both. I have just used the lioness on its own and it works fine, just like a small bar bag. You have a 2 x small straps that fit on your handlebars. These have two female plastic buckles. These buckles fit to the male buckles on the bag itself. On the bag you have the buckle...
