Dynamo wheel build advice please

My SP PD8 is failing, its squealing like a stuffed pig. I will send it back but I can't be without a wheel, so it's a good excuse to get a second wheel that would be more suited for bikepacking duties. I currently have he following wheel build SP PD 8 disc Dynamo 6 bolt for use with hope disc breaks...

Trying out my new bearbones afterburner stove, found it strangely therapeutic. https://www.flickr.com/photos/130449394 ... res/8itwZ4 If you find the flame's burning a little yellow (once everything's warmed up) just open the windshield out a little bit - remember there's more hot air trying to esc...

Re: Todays ride

Ride over Cannock chase and canal. First use of afterburner stove, works well. Using a pan from a trangia gel burner for a pre-heater and base. So far I'm sold on alcohol stoves. It's kind of therapeutic as well. Some pictures here https://www.flickr.com/photos/130449394@N08/shares/130b29 https://fl...

Montane Verso Fireball smock. Re thinking my layering and this is my new mid layer. Two hours of hills tomorrow morning to give it a try out. Waiting for Minimus smock to turn up in a sale at a reasonable price. A Sawyer Mini filter of ebay turns out dealer is local or at least a PL postcode. What ...

Cuben Fibre and Bikepacking

Does anyone use cuben fibre when bikepacking? Could be a tarp or tent, a bivi bag, dry bag, ditty bags, bike bags, stuff sacks, wallets or even clothing? It seems to be quite big in the lightweight backpacking community and I've seen the odd reference to it by cyclists. It's got my interest and thin...

Re: What bikepacking gear have you just ordered/bought?

A Luna Solo tent. Just waiting for a bloke in Wales to send me pole and some carbon pegs. I just bought a Luna solo as well. There were two left at ultralight outdoor shop. Next time I looked they were all gone. was that you? . So bough one cheaper from America, reduced in pric...

Re: Exped Snozzle Bike Pump Combo ?

I bought the tapered 13 airlok dry bag for the seat bag. Though it would be good and weighs around 148g. Then I bought a snozzle bag for my exped mats and it seemed an ideal size to use as a drybag for the alpkit drybag seat bag. Then I realised that this super light drybag which has a second use pe...

Re: Handlebar drybag recommendations please.

Can I just check something regarding the lunar solo pole.

4 sections is good.

The folded length is 33.5cm does this work out to a total length of 134cm?

Just wondering as the peak height of the solo lunar is 121.92cm.

Am I correct?

Thanks

Cycle Touring is now called bikepacking.

Ohh, that will make a few purist cycle tourists unhappy.

Re: Handlebar drybag recommendations please.

Thanks for that, I will have a look. Whilst you are on the forum can I ask you a question. About to order a carbon Luna solo pole. What lengths does it collapse into? And is it wise to order a bear paw to stop the pole sinking in the ground? Also going to try out a afterburner stove. Thanks for that

Handlebar drybag recommendations please.

I've got a wildcat lion handlebar drybag mount. I normally use a standard alpkit 13l drylok extra bag, but going through my kit, I seem to have lost it along with 6 titanium pegs. Grrrrrrrr. So look on alpkit to find the double ended drybag and the single ended one are both out of stock. I normally ...

What bikepacking gear have you just ordered/bought?

Just ordered my most expensive item so far, a PGD Minim -5 in drishell. Hopefully it's going to be a versatile sleeping bag. I've already got a PHD liner bag so this can go inside to increase the bags range. I tried a quilt and even though the quilt was good quality and would be ideal for many, I ju...

Re: Tents, Tarps and Bivi's the pros and cons

Would you consider a tarp and bivi better for cheeky lowland areas or do some of you even use a tent for these?

I suppose green and black best as cuben or a bright colour would make you stand out.

Tents, Tarps and Bivi's the pros and cons

To those of you that have used both, what are your opinions of pros and cons of using a tent v a tarp and bivi? I normally use a lightweight tent, a Vango Helium 200 and have had limited bivi/tarp experience in the military and remember been so cold I was verging on hypothermia and it's put me off b...

Re: Todays ride

Just a short ride today over Cannock Chase. Went past the Huntington belt and you can see the Cannock colliery pit mound in the background of one of my pics. You could say it's a little bit famous as someone stuck a flag pole on the top with an English flag and the local council eventually allowed i...

Re: Lightweight tarp to go with new bivi bag :-)

bicycle 3.5 is pretty light but I recall that ID Siltarp 1 is a little lighter for roughly the same size. I'm sure a wanted ad would likely turn one up. Failing that, you're starting to get into cuben territory. The cuben Trekkertent tarp is well worth a look if you really want to cut the weight ba...

So far it seems great, very light and 19 attachment points.

Quite a bit lighter and bigger than the Alpkit rig7.

Oh that's heavy, I was thinking of something lighter than the bicycle 3.5 which is 325g

FS cumulus 450 quilt

I have decided to sell my cumulus 450 quilt. http://www.outdoorline.sk/en/quilts/318-cumulus-quilt-450.html My reason for selling, is that I just did not get on with quilts, nothing wrong with them but I'm just not a quilt person. So it's back to bags for me. The quilt has been used but still in goo...

Lightweight tarp to go with new bivi bag :-)

I have just bought a bivi to try, I'm normally a tent person but when out on the bike I was thinking at all the lovely places to camp. But a bit naughty to camp there but wouldn't a bivi be ideal. So I've took the plunge and gone and bought one. Now I'm in need of some advice on what to get next. Lo...
