Re: Trangia kit - too bulky for bikepacking?
The actual burner in a Trangia is just a meths burner that you can extinguish using the cap. The pan and windshield are the things that take up all the room but they aren't necessary for the burner to work.

Not sure when it is coming/has come into effect but there's parking restrictions in the Wheelbase/Wilf's yard. They were due to be in place for the winter JennRide but weren't - Rich might know better.

I'l need to measure it but it's one that Stu made up for me. Got a feeling it's 110cm or so, might be a bit longer.thenorthwind wrote: ↑Fri May 10, 2024 9:49 am Can I ask what length pole you're using please? I often feel the stock SMD one could do with being a few inches longer.

John at Borah will do minor customisation for no extra charge. You do have the import lottery though, he put the price of one on the docket even though we bought two 😀 The lightweight bivy weighs 175g but isn’t waterproof I’ve the original pattern Cumulus 150, the newer pattern is a bit wider from w...

Re: GPS Recomendations
I think you have some confusion in your use of terms  GPX refers to a file format for routes and tracks, you don't have GPX "maps". (There's also general confusion about "tracks" and "routes" as well - when you get a file you actually want a "track" not ...

Re: All Weather Tarp Setups/Photos
Thanks, and good point about pegging to the ground, I will try raising the edges Even strongly driven rain is rarely at more than 45deg so if the edge of the tarp is 100mm off the ground then the rain will "get in" by about 100mm. Obviously that's only on one side. If you are camping in w...

Re: Lifesystems Venture Solo Bivi and others?
I've posted on your other thread about tarp setup. I'd echo what Phil says. The tarp in the shot I posted on that thread is a Trekkertent DCF jobbie, bloomin' expensive but weighs just 140g. Borah Gear bivy bag is 175g, pole and pegs add another 100g or so. We've also got an SMD Gatewood Cape tarp t...

Re: All Weather Tarp Setups/Photos
A couple of points - you don't need to have the tarp down to the ground, having the edges 100-200mm off the ground depending on vegetation will allow airflow to help with condensation while still providing protection from wind driven rain. A pole (or poles) will give you more options. After trying s...

I think these days the Eiger North Face in summer is verging on suicidal rather than adventuresome! Really not sure what "adventure" is - it seems like it gets applied to anything that isn't pre-packaged or has the possibility of getting as high as type 1.1 fun. Often goes hand in ha...

It was as much an experiment as anything since the guy in the video is using paracord or similar so I wondered if it would work in Zing-it, the low weight and bulk is an added bonus. Hammock tarp ridgeline
I was looking for a simpler ridgeline for the hammocking tarp and came across this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AwvefCletaY (Be warned he talks at a rate of knots!) I began to wonder if it would work in Lash-it/Zing-it. Only one way to find out! Ten metres of yellow Zing-it for the ridgeline and...

Have a look at Marcus Stitz's website, he's a lot of routes based in southern Scotland, the Central Belt and a few in the southern part of the Highlands. We did part of the Wild about Argyll trail a few years ago and it is certainly doable on a gravel bike with a couple of short sections that might ...

Re: Hammock in the garden
The hooked bolts can be attached at various heights to adjust the height/ tension of the hammock. You generally want a hammock to have quite a bit of sag. From hammockforums.net the starting point is to have the "hung length" around 83% of the length of the fabric. This gives you enough s...

Re: Hammock in the garden
Ah, yeah that arrangement does need more space. Is there anything (e.g wall) you could attach one end to? One problem with attaching to a wall (of any material) is that generally they are intended for a downward force, i.e. gravity acting on whatever mass is above, sticking an anchor into brickwork...
