Re: Bivvy a Month 2017.

1/12 for me last Friday night (20th Jan) : Train to Bridgwater after work, quick stop off at SJSC then across the flatlands and Polden Hills in winter sun to Shapwick for the evening mega murmuration. A pint in the Railway Inn later - a full house for the Prize Bingo and a a lot of tutting for the o...

Re: WTD: Bike luggage and pretty much everything else.

Not second hand but ...

I saw a frame bag on the Lomo website. I have not tried it myself but £ 23 sounds OK and all of their other stuff is pretty good.

Also benp1 sent a link to the KTM seat pack a while back which is good value.

Good luck

Re: Reading Glasses

I use bi focal safety glasses when riding with my garmin. I think less than £10. You get used to the lower little window that gives the magnification and peer along your nose to use it when needed. Somewhere here originally posted, I think I got them via Amazon.

Simple shelter in Mendips ?

I am looking for basic overnight accommodation in the Mendip area for me and a mate, he is not too keen on the tarp thing at present, especially in late November. Before I go Google, can anyone suggest a basic bunkhouse / camping barn / secret place… in the Cheddar / Shipham area. PM me if you want ...

Aldi "Moon" lights and Equinox Lightweight Bivvy Bag

Due to a domestic misunderstanding we have doubled up on the Aldi Moon lights mentioned in the Bargain Alert thread a few days ago. Happy to pass these on for what we paid with the receipt and take a hit on the postage. Feed the bear if you like : 1. sold the aluminium front one 2. Front and Rear se...

Re: Welsh Coast 2 Coast

If it helps anyone, I was pleasantly surprised to find that even when the Red flags are flying on the Sennybridge Firing range, the Eppynt Way that runs just inside the perimeter fence is still usually OPEN. This is the wording written on the signs by the gate and was good news for me after coming u...

Re: Bearstock - Thanks

Well about the same as everyone else, a huge thank you to Stu and Dee for all the work that made a great event.

The Bearstock routes were an excellent idea so thanks also for that extra work Stu.

Good to meet some new people and put faces to the forum names.

Re: Bearstock - Rhayader Grand Depart Friday 1st July

Well, I will aim for Nant Rhys as well then.

Does anyone know about how long that might take at an easy pace using Stu s Bearstock route from Rhayader?

Re: Bearstock - Rhayader Grand Depart Friday 1st July

To clarify the confusion... Stu's BB route from Rhayader to Bearstock goes near a bothy, I am not sure which one as I haven't fully checked the route yet. That is the planned sleepover for Friday night. I hope to find somewhere else to camp / bivvy that probably isn't a bothy near Brecon for Thursda...

Re: Bearstock - Rhayader Grand Depart Friday 1st July

The Cardiff train gets in at 8.30 and I will be on it.

The Taff Trail is fine if you have the time.

I don't know about a bothy near Brecon and was aiming to camp or bivvy after a beer.

Hope we can meet!

Re: Bearstock - Rhayader Grand Depart Friday 1st July

That is Merthyr Tydfil Station. I would get there at around 8.30 pm and was hoping to get to around Brecon for Thursday night.

I was hoping to share the bothy with some more Bearbone people on Friday night.

I was going to call them Bearboners ...

Bearstock - Rhayader Grand Depart Friday 1st July

Is anyone else planning on taking Stu's Rhayader route as above ?

I will be starting at the Merthyr Tydfil Station trailhead Thursday evening and having a leisurely spin so keen to meet up with anyone on the way.

Re: What windproof?

Aldi / Lidl pertex type jacket knock offs.

Fluoro yellow to be seen on the road, or black to hide in the woods.

At times they do a hi viz gilet too.

Like the Montane about the size of an apple when scrunched. Worth looking out for.

Re: Coffee makers

Go Turkish! The very finely ground coffee is available from most middle eastern corner shops and a sachet of sugar from wherever is essential during the boil up to get the frothy head. You can do it all in your ti mug so no extra equipment needed. We first used it on the Lycian Trail and the habit h...

Re: Thermos / Flask that fits in a bottle cage?

A Lifeventure thermo mug fits tight in an old chopped off water bottle. They had a deal on the mugs in Cotswolds recently. I am sure that the extra layer of plastic must help as on a cold day you are running an efficient heat exchanger on your down tube !
