Bit of a fan of Western themes meself - think Morricone's "The Good, The Bad and The Ugly" and so on. This surfed-up punked-up example fairly gallops and soars along: (Warning For Young Persons: don't be alarmed, but it's got a tune) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UjLhWg9PaJA Western them...

Re: Missing the point?
Which implies the only way to have an adventure is to be lost and clueless about your whereabouts I don't think that implication follows really Laz - bit hyperbolic  . Solo around the world, with a gpx, is now not an adventure but lost in your local woods is. Again a bit of fun hyperbole, bu...

Re: Missing the point?
Upthread I raised an eyebrow at the idea of “waymarked adventure” as a contradiction in terms. On reflection, is any ride that comes with a GPX just as waymarked, albeit digitally? Which begs the question, if you’re following a GPX, especially if a GPX someone else has made for you, is it an advent...

I think we might have gone cross-porpoises there Legs. I wasn't quoting your quote, more riffing further on the pitfalls of mis-labelling something an adventure .
As ever, I've now confused myself too, so I'll get my coat .

"focus group" meeting before you know it if you're not careful! Or a "workshop" .. Shades of HHGTTG: 'We've got to find out what people want from fire[/adventure], how they relate to it, what sort of image it has for them.' The crowd were tense. They were expectin...

Re: Missing the point?
just a pacamac and a banana Fairly sure there's more than a few BB200 entrants who'd take this approach if Stu didn't mandate minimum equipment. Rather like a banana can be dangerous in certain circumstances (" go on, come at me with that banana then" - M Python), so can downgrading impor...

Re: Missing the point?
'an adventure trail' or 'adventure/gravel' means more people understand what it is. Nah, just the opposite, it's just left a trail (ho ho) of confusion in its wake. Up is down and down is up. Or possibly sideways. Goodness knows what yer visitor centre punter makes of it. Maybe we should stand at t...

Re: Missing the point?
Awooga. Digression Alert: I note that Mounty has sold an AK Tarpstar shelter round in Classifieds. Looks like a perfectly reasonable bit of gear, no problems with it at all, all fair and square. However I would offer that it is also as misnamed as an 'Adventure' bimbly gravel path round a visitor ce...

Mrs P vaguely watching EuroV in the background. I've not been able to ascertain why. But I'm stuck with it too. It's all rubbish! No tunes to any of them, lot of shouting, lot of tedious repetitive beats, each set sounds exactly the same to poor old Reg. Where's the Macc Lads when you need them eh? ...

Re: All Weather Tarp Setups/Photos
Bit of a tarp fanatic here, so I'll add penn'orth too. I don't use a tent. Or a bivvy bag. However my tarps are larger than most on here - 9 x 7 and 10 x 8 - so no need to faff or add weight with a bivvy bag. My config of choice is the flying diamond, or flying V as some would call it. Very very fas...

Re: WRT 2024: Tall Tales and Dirty Deeds
Apart from the weather going horribly wrong that was a nice WRT. The locations of the GRs meant that there was lots of the renowned WRT “bumping into other riders at random” which is one of my favourite aspects. Our LHC-B group gathered together and off we went, having lost a couple of players, but ...

And if you're in the Wynnstay tonight, have a Poretti and a pickled egg for me please will you? Not there tonight sadly, but would like the building to still be ther...

Re: What is ádventure?
What's down that track? as an example. Having something planned to the enth degree simply limits the possibility of adventure. Yep. And I'll refer back to my point about imagination being required with old computer games. Imagination equally applies to adventure. Following a pre-set line or a fixed...
