Re: TCW Dover Junction Bivy
OK I don't mind playing the fully-paid-up-train-nerd card ;-). Berney Arms in Norfolk. And of course if you get stuck there you can drown your sorrows in the boozer which is named after the station, which is named after the boozer, which is named after the station, which is... Re: Sleeping when bivyin
Succinctly put there BP methinks. Nice tagline really: "bikepacking - it's more than just a ride". Just get some stickers made :-). "Reg" PS. Or even how about "bikepacking - don't let them take you for a ride". No that's not quite right. Whatever. :-S [edit] PPS. Actua...

'Without any bivi kit' - nice one MIB, am pleased i'm not the only sufferer! Maybe we're witnessing the Day Of The Ultraminimalists. Bit like the Day Of The Triffids but without the selfpropelled plantlife.

"significance" - there was a very deep one at the time but I'm struggling to remember it now I've got my brain (mostly) back ;-). Perhaps the lack of a saddle is alluding to those things that are missing in our lives? "We must remember that nothing in this world really belongs to us. ...

Re: Todays ride
Sorry about those ravings but it was a surreal night. Have a few too many (as was plain) and anything can happen (every bevvy leads to a bivi!). Rode to Ivinghoe and consumed intemperately in the Rose and Crown, departing late. Back along the spooky bridleway below Ivinghoe Beacon: http://i1296.phot...

Re: Todays ride
Might be aboutto make the last mistake I ever make. If I don't post tomorrow it will have been! Pickers just assured me that I'm the scariest thing out there. What was it, "if it's not there in the daytime it's not there at night time". OK, on the way back from the woods down the canal and...

Re: List of dates 2017
Ohh dear that sounds ominously like a plan then! Um, sorry to be a Bear of little brain here, but this multi-site W-Bivi is a separate thing from the Winter Event in Jan then is it? Or is it? I wouldn't like to pass up the opportunity to get frozen and wet and lost and knackered and drunk and mechan...

"same". Ahem, good point that man ;-). 176 miles it is then. Arg.
It's Friday night and I'm three pints of Whistable.. or possibly Whitstable... Ale to the wind already and not thinking straight. Or less straight than normal at any rate. Which isn't saying much at all.

I reckon it's colder now in July than it was in December . That might be my frozen braincells mis-remembering it of course.

Ok, another "SE" contestant possibly here. Leighton Buzzard. Funnily enough I was thinking of an "emergency" bivi on top of Ivinghoe Beacon in a couple of weekends time. Although I really like the sound of the Welsh Winter Wonder bivi as well. If they were the same weekend I'm no...

Re: Mini trip report: bikepacking for beginners on a budget
I remember our "hotel & wives" chat Pickers :-). Maybe the compromise is you book her into a posh hotel, then you sneak in through the window (*) and attach your tarp to some door handles and crash out under that. (*) Ah, actually I retract that suggestion. I did that once at a Travelo...

Thank you FAV. Hmm, a little more effort than I'd hoped ;-). His field-full of raw material appears to be enough to knit a small handkerchief . Certainly therapeutic though.

Definitely bamboo. I've got loads of Highlander stuff from a variety of places. At Stu says, very soft and no itching at all, and no pong after days on end. Shreddies: https://www.amazon.co.uk/HOEREV-Bamboo-Fibre-Briefs-Underwear/dp/B00IJXQSD8?ie=UTF8&ref_=pe_385721_37986871_TE_item Tops: https:...

Enjoyed that report Frog, particularly the "recipe corner" . Bet the "scary" route down from Fadian was fun on a fatty, although the chippings are a bit tedious compared to days of old. Not tempted to ride the top of the Pontcysyllte railings then?

Blast. My finger slipped while browsing PHD's website and I've ended up with a Minim Ultra K (1000fp) bag. I know the summer bedding "du jour" is a quilt but I quite like being able to slip inside something (*), and if it's good enough for Ian it's good enough for moi. The (lack of) weight...

5/6. Had been feeling a bit peaky since last bivi session, so Pickers kindly offered to accompany me on some Peak Practice last weekend. Direct train 07.09 from Leighton Buzzard all-stations to Kidsgrove allowed me plenty of time in the restaurant car – kippers, kedgeree, porridge, toast, silver pot...
