Re: Where do you WANT to live and why?

I don't have a problem deciphering it...nor the half million local dialects on this little island. Black Country slang threw me for a loop early on, but it's not so bad now. :)

Re: Where do you WANT to live and why?

Lots of places come to mind...for cycling and lifestyle - Arizona, Colorado, Montana, British Columbia, Victorian high country or Nth NSW. If language was also no barrier, the foothills of the Andes, Himalayas or Atlas mountains would be nice. Then again, the geek in me says Tokyo, the musician in m...

Re: Which part of the world do you live, and do you like it?

Currently holed up in Shrewsbury, W. Salop. Close enough to town to walk it.
An hour 'n a bit ride to Long Mynd or Stiperstones. A 45 minute train ride and a 40 minute ride to BearBones country.
It's ok here, but I do miss the Australian sunshine and beaches.

Re: Todays ride

20 miles last night to visit folks...stayed overnight...23 'n a bit miles back...explored a little section of the old railway route that runs along Wenlock Edge. Ugly headwind on the return leg. I think it might be beer o'clock after that little affair.

Re: Flying with bikes

I've just had my bike flown out from the US...Mrs Scattamah did a good job of the packaging. A very sturdy box sourced from REI (your local LBS will be glad to help here with any luck)...bars removed from stem and bound to top tube...plenty of bubble wrap around the frame/pointy bits/discs/deraileur...

Don't think it was me but I do remember someone saying it.. Maybe Scott? Not guilty yer honor...I go a little OTT in the battery spares dept. having been caught out in the field before. Re: Bivvy a month 2015

Subzero bivvy on top of Long Mynd last night with Composite...still a bit of snow and a lot of ice up on the southern end. Not sure what the temp. dropped to in the end, but it was pretty close to as low as I dare go with my ultra-waif bag. First non-bothy run of the year down. 11 to go :) Greetz S.

Re: Todays ride

A leisurely 88kms from town to Long Mynd and back with Composite for the first round of BAM for this year. Very icy descent on #9 this morning with more than enough sideways tail action to keep me on my toes.

Re: T/T ring? What chain are you using?

PC1051 on the 1x10 here (e*thirteen 34-T ring). 2000+ miles on the ring, 1000+ miles on the chain.
I run an e*thirteen guide to keep the chain where it should be. Very few problems.

I've heard good things about Blackspire and North Shore Billet rings but not used them myself.

I'd much rather be in the snow than the gloop that I attempted to get through tonight...30 Kms...several of which left my Lois in a right state.

70Kms last night...cold and sharp out there on Wenlock Edge with a hint of ice on the pavement. Return journey had me fecking and arseing as my hands froze up and any contact with the handlebars was excruciatingly painful. Still...it took the attention off the back of my right leg which refuses to c...

Re: Todays ride

10 miles today checking out a planned route, which turns out to be terrible. Back to the drawing board. Suspect there wasn't enough sealant in the rear tyre as it went flat after 5 miles. Switched for a tube which subsequently split at the valve *sigh* I walked the last 3 miles home with bike on sho...

Irrespective of the skin peeling off my arse, the sleet, buggered knee, mud, broken zippers, non-sealing tyres, traversing snow melt rivers, broken deraileurs, bears, HAB through snow that makes Welsh tussock yomping seem tame, sunburn, bad coffee, worse food, 4-hour climbs...I'll do it again. Re: food options+ preferences

I spent 2 weeks on the Perpetuem Solids (caffe latte flavour) last year...until I couldn't deal with the texture and cost anymore. Kept me going ok, but it was more of a stop-gap until I could get proper food. For a 3-day affair, you'd be fine.

Re: food options+ preferences

You could try Hammer Perpetuem Solids...I carried 2 tubes around on the Fiesta...one for each day. All the Hammer stuff is gluten/dairy free and it won't break the bank in terms of weight and space.

Oh yeah...Geax...forgot about the Saguro. A lot of 2014 TD riders rolled out on those. I've not tried 'em myself.

Tried Nano's, Stu? Fast rolling for sure...running tubeless ok on my 29er. Not sure if it's the tyres themselves or the Mustang rims that make 'em tricky to seat the bead.
