Re: Indian Pacific Wheel Race

To say that Kristof's account of the IPWR is a bit dry would be a big understatement.
The guy doesn't like to let his emotions show that much does he?

He finished last night and then got a lift to Hachita.

Amazing effort!

Re: SRT Operational Member Training.

Nice one Greg, sounds like you're really starting to show your worth to the team! It sounds like there were a lot of incidents on the Reek. Is that normal, or was it worse this year due to the weather? Were there many folks doing it barefoot? I saw a video a couple of years ago about a lad who went ...

Re: Haute Route, Chamonix - Zermatt

Ski mountaineering haute route would definitely not be a good plan on a bike - even a fat bike! Those crevasses on the glaciers are hungry in the summer!

Re: Where it started for you

For me it was a trip from my mate's house in Sedbergh to my parents' house near Clitheroe. We camped at the Norber erratics near Ingleton. Must have been about 1998. Not sure if any photos exist - will have a dig.

Re: TDR 2017

It's going to result in a slightly weird result where (if things stay as they are) Marketa Peggy Marvanova will be the women's winner, crossing the finish line a couple of days behind Rickie. Not very satisfactory for anyone involved.

Re: TDR 2017

Quite a character. Previous RAAM finisher I believe?
Definitely a character. Yes, previous RAAM finisher and currently sitting in 4th place in the Trans Am Bike Race.

He tried to draft off me on some of the tarmac sections, so I dropped him.

Re: TDR 2017

In 2016 the finishing rate was about 45% (or 87 out of 191) based on Trackleaders. Some people will give up at the first small problem and some will fight through illness, injury and major mechanicals and still finish. One of the guys I rode with a bit last year (Jose) was extremely scathing of peop...

Re: TDR 2017

Lee seems to be heading away from the route at 40mph. Guess the attempt at continuing has not worked out. Hope she is ok and mends quickly with some rest.

Re: TDR 2017

I have no idea, it was just a joke!
Don't worry - it was very much taken in that spirit. I did have a re-read of Mike Curiak's open letter. He was really very angry!

Rickie has made it to that renowned beauty spot that is Wamsutter. Hope she gets a decent lunch at Love's Travel Stop.

Re: TDR 2017

He's sailing across the basin!
Was it ever clarified if that constituted cheating or not?

Either way I'd assume that these days JP is not only ensuring that he is racing within the rules, but also that he is seen to be within the rules.

Re: TDR 2017

The Craigie is seeking medical attention for a seriously swollen face.
Sounds like she's planning to get going again in the morning. Hope she is recovered properly and whatever it was doesn't come back.

Rickie is camped at Diagnus Well. A proper night out in the desert.

Re: TDR 2017

I actually had a good experience in Pinedale. I had decent beer and food at the Wind River Brewery and stayed at a nice (but quite expensive) motel. I decided to have a bit of a slow start and stuck around for the buffet breakfast which I pretty much demolished on my own.

Re: TDR 2017

Wonder if they will hit up the Rocky Mountain Roadhouse tomororw Tom? Remember, don't trust anyone. *drunkenly taps nose* Ha! Looks like Rickie and Lee didn't stop for sage advice at the Rocky Mountain Roadhouse, but did stop in at the blind squirrel shop. They have ended up sleeping very close to ...

Re: TDR 2017

Just did a comparison of the re-route against the old route on the Trackleaders replay. For 2016 Josh Kato took 6.5 hours from Round Prairie to Lodgepole FSR/Flathead Valley Rd junction on the old route. For 2017 he took 16 hours to get between those points via the new route. He seemed to stop for a...

Re: TDR 2017

It misses out the Flathead Pass (the river trail) and I think the 'connector' cliff ascent too. I was also wondering why the route has changed. I think it still goes up that nasty push though - just after it leaves the Wigwam forest service road and before the last pass before dropping to the road ...

Re: HT550 - 2017

After the singlespeed champs in Evanton Sarah and I popped up to Oykel Bridge to see if we could catch some of the riders. We managed to see Pavel, Fraser, Steve Large, Dan Golob, Javi, Huw and Phil F-T. I had particularly wanted to catch up with Pavel as we saw a lot of each other on the Tour Divid...

Re: Indian Pacific Wheel Race

It must be quite tense for them both. As it's dark I'm sure they'll be able to see each other's lights.

It will be a strange feeling to go 10 days without seeing another racer and then come back together like this.

Bear Bones Time Zone

Has the forum already changed to BST or do I have some setting wrong which means that posts are shown as having been made an hour later than they were actually made?
Just looked on my settings and it seems to be on UTC which is the same as GMT I believe.
Anyone else have this?

Re: Indian Pacific Wheel Race

I'm not used to the mapprogress site yet - finding it a bit harder to use than trackleaders. I tried to get a leaderboard by sorting the rider list by "distance overall via route" which seems to kind of work apart from it has Nathan Jones in 3rd although from the map it looks like he's way...

Kristof has stopped at the WA/SA border for a sleep, Mike is 60km back and still rolling. Looks like they will probably see each other this morning unless Kristof is only stopping for a couple of hours.

Re: One Year Time Trial

Amanda Coker's effort is mind blowing. However it's a completely different game riding laps of a flat 10 mile circuit compared to the lanes of England that Steve is taking on, and definitely easier to keep a high average speed. From now on is it likely that future attempts on the record be conducted...

Re: Scottish Bothy Bible book now out

There was a thread about the book a couple of weeks ago.

http://bearbonesbikepacking.co.uk/phpBB ... f=7&t=9022

I've got a copy and it's a pretty good book with nice pictures but lots of typos and mistakes.
