Re: TDR 2018

Does anyone know Dom Irvine? Seems like an interesting character with an End-to-End tandem record under his belt. Currently pushing out an impressive pace on his NoBo attempt.

Re: Scottish Paths - Maintenance / Repair / Upgrade?

I do get a bit upset when a favourite technical challenge gets ironed out. I saw one formerly nice rooty bit this morning on the Petit Balcon Nord in Chamonix which has been flattened since Sunday evening. It is all a cycle though. Water and thousands of tyres and boots will make it "interestin...

What has happened to Michelle Dulieu? Trackleaders is currently listing her as finished, which she clearly isn't as last night she was just beyond the tea house bothy and close to the bealach into Coire Lair.

Will Rich and Tom keep going (maybe for a 1am finish) or will they stop once they get down the Devil's Staircase?

Re: How do you fit cycling into your life?

I've just gone from a situation where I was commuting 20 km each way 5 days a week to one where I can get to work in 8 minutes on the bike. This means I've got back over an hour a day that I would have previously spent commuting. I'm going to try to do a run or bike ride every day before or after wo...

The last 3 years seem to have had dry conditions - we must be due a wet HT550 for 2019. May have to see if I can have permission for another crack!

It would be interesting to know what Tom Rowntree used in 2015 when he won.

Re: TMB end of March = snowy fatbike fun?

Yes, that is the route we're all thinking of. It is a cracking route. Here is a video I made when I did it a few years ago (end of September, so virtually no snow). https://vimeo.com/75344691 Having lived in Chamonix for 3 years there is no way I would consider this route in March. I have had some e...

Re: Way OT question about 240V transformer.

Have you got a multi-meter you could use to measure the resistance of this wire element? If you know that you should be able to work out how much current will flow at a given voltage.

Do they have Clootie Wells or the equivalent anywhere else other than Scotland? I'm not aware of any, but it seems hard to believe it hasn't spread outside of Scotland. My wife and I camped on an island in Loch Maree at the weekend, and went to visit Isle Maree which has a healing well that is mean...

Re: So.. whats the best rigid fork you've ridden??

I won a Travers Prong fork in the raffle at the European Singlespeed Champs this year.
Seems nice so far - good solid feel. Haven't put all that many miles on it yet though.
Have a Salsa CroMoto on my other bike, which has been great over the last 8 years.

It seems that was only part of the story.

It's not just a partnership - Liberty House has bought Shand:

Re: Tour Divide Veterans - Talk to me

I had some of this on the Old Bannack Road last summer. Used a stick to scrape it off the tyres, stays and forks so that the wheels would go round, then pushed until there was a rideable section. Ride for a few metres, repeat. That went on for probably 30 miles, which took several hours. The pushing...
