Re: The post man's been ...

The postman has brought me a credit card statement which contains my SPOT subscription, no prior warning as has been discussed previously, it's £216.71 :o that includes £6.29 Non Sterling Trans Fee as it's in Euro, Ireland. I should get my cousins to pay it, as they live in Ireland and at least I'd...

Re: SPOT Tracker Renewal Fees - Being Gouged?

Called up to cancel tonight as my renewal's due on the 1st September. Bit of a nuisance having to phone them in the USA and then, after having been cut off by them once, wait on hold for quite a long time. The lady in the "deactivation" team offered me a $100 rebate if I didn't cancel. I g...

Re: oddest place you've bivvied?

Inside a 24hrs Mcdonalds so that I didn't breach the compulsory 6 hour stoppage rule on the Tour Aotearoa. I'd stopped to eat some food, it was late so to maximise the use of the stoppage rule and prevent my movement registering on the GPS I blagged, by giving a charitable donation, use of the locke...

Re: Tour Divide 2016

It's a shame his Spot wasn't working to start with. I like to see how these front runners manage their sleep. It looks like Mike's only had 3hrs sleep over about 43 hours. That's likely but surely he'll pay for it later on. I'm guessing sleep deprivation whilst maintaining a consistent pace are two ...

This would probably be really pleasant if everyone around me wasn't treating it like a race! Can't manage to chase down the guy on the graveyard shift though...at least I think that's what he's doing.

I'm doing this too. Still not sure whether it's a race or not but I'm cycling from Kaitaia to Cape Reinga then riding the 2nd wave down to the South and got to get back up to Auckland all in three weeks. S'gonna be tight!

Re: Bivi bag only?

I used a just Rab Event bivi bag on the TCR. The reason for this was I wanted a waterproof shelter that could be sealed up from mosquitoes and was quick to set up as well as not being fussy where to set up. It poured with rain about six hours after the midnight start and I set the bivi up in a fores...

Re: Overseas Route Planning

Another one for Ridewithgps here. It seemed to have become the de facto standard for us English guys doing the Transcontinental Race. However, some of the foreign guys I'd spoken to used different applications. Previously I was using GPSies but to be honest the resolution on the exported gpx file an...

Tootpaste is very useful not only for brushing teeth but I find it takes the sting out of bites from midges and things. Alternatively you could take Neem bark. It's great for cleaning teeth. Once you've chewed the bark you could then spit the pulp out into your hand and smear it all over yourself to...

Until I can figure out which solution I'll use with my carbon fork I will just leave it in a small padded bag in my fuel tank. Will be transferring it over to the Number 1 bike for the cairngorms though... Perhaps this is a solution for your carbon fork conundrum... http://www.ultimatesportsenginee...

You're missing the fact it comes delivered with a pre-fitted worm, primed for plugging the hole. That's got to be worth at least a tenner.

Good idea. Shame it won't work on bars that are wrapped in tape. Maybe there'll be a drop bar version coming along at some point. Road tubeless is becoming more popular allegedly.

I put my name down for this a while ago. Never been to New Zealand and this gives me a great reason to go. I agree with Ray it could be incredibly tough but I like the idea that it's specifically not a race and we'd be frowned upon if we ride through the night. It means I'll see more of the country ...

The most lighweight sleeping mat is no sleeping mat..just ride 'til your eyes begin to close and you'll sleep anywhere. Long grass works well. However, I've got a Thermarest NeoAir Xlite. It packs away very well in the same bag as my down bag and is very lightweight. It's just a faff blowing it up a...

Re: Dynamo hub USB device - have your say!

Zippy, this fits in to those mounts perfectly. Use some see through heat shrink and not only would it be water tight but you can see the light. They have a switch which you need to press and it supports pass through charging too. You'd still need a regulator between the dynamo and the Anker battery ...

Re: Dynamo hub USB device - have your say!

I don't think having a usb connection is the be all and end all. I'm happy with this set up which is designed to have an unregulated feed to the Revo and a feed to the regulator (an e-werk in my case) and then on to the device that needs charging. 100% waterproof so I don't need gold plated connecti...

Re: Dynamo hub USB device - have your say!

Somebody else on this forum mentioned the Forumslader project some time ago and I think it is possibly the most advanced dynamo regulator that's for sale at the moment. It's available in two packages and can either be inserted in your steerer or if the steerer isn't long enough then it can be mounte...

Flatfishy, how long did it take for you to receive it from order to delivery and did you pay any duties? I might get one but need it within two weeks. It's crazy expensive though. cheers.

P.s. What are all those wires coming out of it? Looks like there's loads!
