Re: Black Mtns to Glos via FoD - good/quick routes?

... I don't see many good E-W routes if you're passing through between the main cycle route along the Glos-Sharpness canal and the Abergavenny-Crickhowel area. From Glos-Sharpness canal are you talking going north through Gloucester or south over the Severn Bridge? I'm guessing via Gloucester? From...

Re: 2 weeks and counting

I always reckon you can knock 2 or 3 degrees off the general forecast temperatures if you're going up into the hills for the night.
And another 1 or 2 if you camp by a stream in a shallow valley.
High possibility of condensation this weekend given the conditions?

On the rewilding subject, I saw a short film a few months ago that detailed what had happened after wolves were reintroduced to one of the national parks in the US ... it turned out that pretty much all flora and fauna had benefited in some way and the park was much healthier than it had been previ...

Re: Who actually uses a guide book…?

I love guide books. Well, good ones anyway. As a tool for research if visiting an area, as a guide to an area, even just as something to flick through and let my mind wander. One of my earlier ones (and still a favourite) is Mountain Bike Guide Mid-Wales & The Marches by Jon Dixon, published by ...

What were they saying back in the 70s? Still, if the majority follow Viz's advice then the hills around B...

The corollary to the question you pose is that someone might be cheeky at a later date and put my freely shared route in a book or a paid for app but I'll never see anything for it. Didn't Dave B recently comment that someone had copied word for word a route from one of his books and publish it wit...

Re: Route ethics

I take the view that every route already exists, it just requires someone to join the dots, although doing so doesn't give you any ownership over it (but it is nice if credit is given where it's due). Fully agree with Stu. If someone sells a gpx they're not selling the route, they're selling the ti...

If there are sufficient numbers of objectors it may be worth considering employing a Planni...

Nice write up NeilA :-bd I'm particularly liking the Launderette service available, I can certainly see the benefits of that during certain rides.
