The postman’s been on a number of occasions.

Still stuff to sort, suspension forks and some finishing kit once I’ve settled on a ride position. So the Postie still has work to do!

Re: Alpkit LoveMud Confucius bars

Very happy with mine. And they’ll come in handy as my new bike is designed to run a short stem so these will help no end.

But yes, heavy and stiff.

Re: Midge season Scotland's west coast

Don't worry about it people still believe in the Loch Ness Monster down there so there will still be plenty of tourists to fleece  Speaking of which, if anybody is looking for a way of relocating to the Highlands. Nessieland is on the market! You get your own cafe as well as a plastic Loch...

Do you have any issues with bags damaging carbon posts through friction?

Re: Bikepacking beginner

It's not just farm animals that can be a problem with dogs. Ground nesting birds can also be disturbed. I’m also going through this (and yeh, buying a working stock gun dog was a brilliant idea of mine  ) and assuming the Collie is in good fitness I don’t see why not at least for shorter rout...

Re: Bikepacking beginner

What do you look for in a route in terms of distance and climbs?
Can I just say I don’t think this matters. For some it’s a trip out if it’s 5km from the pub, some will cross a continent or more!

Smiles are worth more than miles.

Re: Scotland Winter Bivi.

. I'm led to believe the direct descent to Blair Atholl via Loch Bhac is worthwhile.
Although I used the other way down, I'd suggest that descent wants to be dry to be fun. Especially with loaded bikes.

If a bothy, then Duinish would allow an approach from either north or south,
Definitely approach from the south, and spend ages looking into the heather for small yellow objects.

Re: Cairngorms Loop - Sept Start

Lots of keen looking riders in the car park this morning. I skipped barging in and saying hello as it was close to kick off. But good luck and enjoy to everyone out.

My ride was good but much, much shorter.

Indeed, I need to go back to Kintail with the Occam (and some company).

I'll still get off and push any scary bits admittedly.

Re: Great, another bags/gear thread ;-)

I'm always surprised my saddle bag doesn't disintegrate* in response to my shoddy packing, it looks like it's sub standard itself. Anyway, no waterproof trousers, no mug, no tarp (although mine gets strapped to the down tube if I do take it), no camera, and water in the frame not a camelback. FWIW, ...

Re: Advice on cooking equipment

Much prefer meths, very few scenarios where the extra speed of gas matters to me, although I admit to some having boiled water a few minutes earlier seems to be important. If it's around zero or below (within reason) I'd probably take gas. Above I'd take meths. As above, depends how long you're out ...
