Re: Laminating printed maps

ALL HAIL THE MGHTY MAP AND COMPASS  Anyway, I like the analogue solution. Good enough if you stay on the same map. I’ll try some of the film type stuff on printed maps. See how I get on. The option of printing and then using a laminator is something I’ve tried before, I’ve found the to be diff...

Laminating printed maps

I have found that I enjoy being out in the hills less when using a GPS. I’m less engaged with my environment, particularly on the bike as I’m navigating by looking at a screen for directions more and taking my cues from the environment less. (As it goes, if it mostly road/gravel I don’t care). I’m g...

You must have been impressed with the test last year, "ahem" tight northerner and all  I was fella and yes I am  The fact that I still wanted one after 12 months, made me realise that I really did want one. This is a smaller / lighter model than the one I tested. I reckon it s...

I’ve sone interesting memories of riding a “Big Red”

Would have been safer playing chicken on the M40 with a skull full of Diamond White tbh.

One small bag of carbon fibre poles from some bloke in Wales
One Cuben Fibre Tarp from some bloke in the Borders
One Exped sleeping mat as recommended by the forum
One titanium meths stove
One probably poorly functioning but pleasingly light Aluminium poo hole trowel

Not a bad couple of weeks.

Re: An ode to the e-bike

I’ve been thinking about ebikes quite a bit lately. My Dad, in his mid 70s was diagnosed with Cancer a while back and has recently finished Chemo. All the tests are very positive so that’s all good. Should really catch up with the brothers and see what they think. He used to love bikes before age ca...

Sleeping mat suggestions

It’s been a while since I’ve looked at mats. Can anyone suggest me something for Scottish winter conditions? I’m 6ft and don’t sleep still. If I have two large drinks first budget is up to around £200. Any more than that and I’ll have to nip down the Co op for a full bottle. I’ve been eyeing up this...

I think using the Strone road might work better. It has been a few years since I was there tbh.

Re: Scottish Winter Bivvy.

I’ve been on those tracks north of Newtonmore. I’d describe them as slop fests with an unhealthy dose of cow sub standard.

Not really the postman, but I’ve just collected our van from the conversion garage. Lined, insulated, Webasto heater, couple of windows, lighting, roof vent, and a removable over 6ft and full width platform bed at 2/3 height.

Quite pleased

Re: Dedicated bikepacking bike... to plus or not to plus?

For what it’s worth.

My first ride on a 29+ left me indifferent.

My first ride on 27.5+ left me thoroughly converted.

Although both rides were just hacking about rides. 6ft if it makes any difference.

Re: Bivvy a month 2018.

Bigdummy, serious question

How is the Brasenose these days? Used to be one of my locals, no pub in the village I used to live in so had to cycle out or lift share to neighbouring villages.

I used to like the Red Lion as well, less so after they got rid of the pool table.
