Large Ergon grips, JBay. The same ones he had on the old bike, with one cut down to fit the Rohloff twist grip. His love for the Longitude grows stronger as time goes on. As for the hub gears, well he had an Alfine 11 on the old bike, which spend half its life being 'repaired'. The Rohloff is living...

Re: Morocco - Agadir to Ouarzazate via Toubkal

By the time we got to Lac d'Ifni, the snow was too deep to continue and the weather was taking a turn for the worse. Took us 5 hours to get to the lake in Toubkal, a lot of pushing.

It was his old bike, two years ago, when we were on our Irish trip. Didn't get round to writing it all up.

The Ride to Malin Head, Ireland's most Northerly point

If you've ever been to Ireland on Good Friday, you'll know that this is the one day of the year that pubs close their doors. After cycling for nine days to the most northerly point in the country, I wanted a pint. Here's how I got one. http://www.farawayvisions.com/malin-head-nod-wink-pint-good-frid...

Distance - a shade under 300 miles with 21,000 feet of climbing Rain, snow and wind sent us scurrying from Marrakech to Agadir for a southerly, more familiar approach to the High Atlas. http://www.farawayvisions.com/bikepacking-route-agadir-to-ouarzazate-morocco/ We rode via Toubkal, the highest pea...

Re: Which saddle?

Me and Dan have the male and female version of the Brooks B17. His is on a Genesis Longitude (original model) and is quite soft and supple now. Mine is still fairly stiff by comparison though we both find them comfortable. I believe that heavier people will break in a saddle quicker than a lighter p...

Many adults ride the pavement on the Itchen Bridge and there is a cycle lane across the bridge, After the bridge and going towards Soton, there is a couple of hundred metres of road (and a footpath) until you reach the T-junction and turn right at the lights. From there she can ride along a wide foo...

Nevis, you can park at ours which would add about 6 miles each way to your trip if that would help. We live east of Southampton. Pm me for details if you like.
There is a link to the full trip report on the route pages to give an idea of what you might encounter and places to eat etc.

Re: Those simple 5 minute jobs?

My favourite jobs work the other way round. Domestic ones in particular. Best when significant others are not technically minded and think that diy type jobs are trickier than they actually are. 'I'll do it this afternoon while you're out' leads to a 5 (or maybe 10) minute job and some loafing abou...

North South Loop This route is 77km long with 1121m of climbing and mostly off road. To the east of the island, the going is sandy compared to the chalk and flint of the western half. Tiniest handbag when out and about. Capsule wardrobe when travelling without a bike, Wildcat frame bag doubles as handbag on day rides to the village for coffee. Ashamed to say I don't always carry a puncture repair kit, figure I can push the bike home if I'm within 3 miles.

Havana from the back of a Buick

After three weeks of cycling in Cuba we rode past hundreds of classic American cars. Ninety minutes before we left for the airport, we decided to see Havana from the back of a Buick and received an unexpected lesson on the history of Fidel Castro’s revolution. Honest to goodness, it was the best of ...

Re: LOST: Enormous Pair Shimano Mountain Bike Shoes

Thanks for helping me out and making Dan feel less like a schmuck, Brown Dog. I couldn't bear to live with his state of misery or the horror of having to use some basic flat pedals I have in the shed. Despite the unexpected expense, I have encouraged Dan to buy a new pair. LOST: Enormous Pair Shimano Mountain Bike Shoes

I bring to you a tale of woe. My partner Mpolo (Dan), cycled to and from the car park at Picket Post in the New Forest yesterday. When he changed to get into the car, he drove off and left his shoes behind. When he discovered he had no cycling shoes this morning, he drove back to look for them and s...

Re: Let's have a chat about knee pain.

After we came back from cycling almost 1000km in Cuba, I didn't ride for a couple of weeks. On my first ride I developed pain in my right knee after 10 miles, struggled for another 15 then bailed out. Never had a pain anywhere until then. Same thing happened 2 weeks later. Going out again and if sti...

I've got down bedding for the home and the outdoors. Once, I had that smell you're on about. Once you get a bit of sweat and slobbers and stuff on it it will sme...

After 25 miles in a bracing wind on a pogie trial day, I bailed out with 4 miles left to ride home. Ducked into a cafe, ordered hot chocolate with marshmallows and cream and waited for Dan to ride home, and come back in the car to pick me up. I've developed something odd in my knee and am in pain - ...
