Re: WRT 2014

I'll be taking one as I always take one on all my trips - my body's a temple and all that jazz...

Its a Drinksafe travel tap so I'll be using it like a normal bottle with the filter removed at the start so it'll just be a normal bike bottle

Getting under a low slung tarp

I'm 6'3, getting into anything small or under anything low isn't easy I've never worked out a great way to get under a low tarp, particularly when it's wet, without getting wet from the ground or touching the tarp Most of my tarp use has been with walking poles, i'll be using the bike (hopefully) to...

Re: Gaiters

I have a short pair of integral designs event gaiters; and a longer pair of rab event gaiters (hispar maybe?) Never tried them with biking but they work fine for walking when I've needed them. Most of my walking is with breathable shoes though so I just get wet feet, but walking keeps them warm. Doe...

Re: Cooking tips

Starbucks Via is brilliant, available in decaf too (only from Starbucks though, not supermarkets) I actually trained myself to drink coffee black for the very reason I can't be bothered to take milk on trips, its lighter and easier. Try it, coffee is now much more pleasant for me, think of it like a...

Option 2 - angel delight and nido milk powder in a pour and store bag, just add hot water What is hot angel delight like? Only ever had it chilled out of the fridge. Like heaven on a spoon. Re: WRT maps

That's the sort of useful insight I was looking for :D

I need to buy some maps of the area near work as I was hoping to do a practice bivy on the bike one night, figured I might as well order some of the maps for the WRT (no time to get away so just have time around the kids to plan/dream!)

WRT maps

I know grid refs won't be released till a month before but I'm going to order some OS maps shortly

I already have the following maps for the nearby area - 187, 200, 214, OL23, plus OL12 and OL13. I was going to order 213 and 215, is that likely to cover me, would 216 be useful?

Re: Meths stoves: how hot?

I shoud have been clearer, sorry What I meant was... you can do pretty much anything on a meths stove. You can cook anything on a trangia and people do. Its just a meths stove, not significantly different to other meths stoves, so therefore you can cook anything on a meths stove The only exception i...

Re: Meths stoves: how hot?

When you think of meths stoves from a bikepacking perspective you typically think little red bull can stoves or similar - i.e. small light and simple Trangias are used all over the place and are also meths stoves, I've cooked everything from a full english and stir frys through to pasta meals and st...

Re: Your Kitlist

The kit lists they request are rubbish. The ask for too much stuff but they need to be risk adverse and safety conscious (although big weights are a risk and aren't fun) Unfortunately as parents are buying stuff for their kids and don't know how long they'll need or want it for the DofE stuff tends ...

Re: Something like waxed cotton shorts?

Waxing cotton makes it waterproof but not breathable. The more wax it has the less breathable it is, buts it's very robust - You could take a fall it in and probably brush off the dirt without any detriment. Might be ok in baggies as the fabric movement would help with venting but not so good if cut...
