Re: Adventure/Gravel/Cyclocross bike choices for bikepacking
In the usual recommend what you have, i love my Salsa Fargo, old version and well worn, which has just had a fresh powdercoat. Not as light as many of the "gravel bikes" above, but takes a true 29er tyre, you'll feel a lot less beaten up and is a lot more stable when covered in bikepacking...

Re: That'll keep the legal team happy....
I have them on my fat bike since a fortnight ago, and i've only been out on one bivvy ride so far with them, but i like them, to be honest the general bar itself isn't a million miles different to a standard MTB bar it replaced (Easton Havoc), but when i had my Apidura front roll and accessory bag o...

Re: Bar Advice
I have these on Fargo (purely because i wanted silver which they did) and have found them really good. I found Midge bars and the Alpkit ones had to tighter bend and very little actual space for my large hands on the drops at all. http://store.velo-orange.com/index.php/dajia-far-bar-handlebar-black....

Re: The further commercialisation of bikepacking?
I think for someone like Markus, who has gone out of his way to route the Capital Trail and the Central Belter in his own time and organised the events, he's set up Bikepacking Scotland Facebook group and put a hell of a lot of time in to planning this, then why he shouldn't he ask for a nominal fee...

Petzl used to do filters that could be placed on headtorches for military purposes. Will have a Google and see if they still do them..

I the usual vein of recommend what you own, i've a Rab Superlight, really good size and is has a guy point so it holds open like a hooped bivvy, plus i can fit thick airmat, sleeping bag and my prop-forward proportions inside and turn over without whole bag rolling with me, plus it is Event fabric s...

Re: One Year Time Trial
Steve has trained his speed up a lot and is now averaging 17mph+ over 200 miles (try it). He knows full well what is required and managed to take the month record riding at that sort of schedule. Even so it is a big ask and he knows it. I wasn't knocking Steve at all, believe me i really do have ev...

Re: One Year Time Trial
Been following this over the last few years, and whilst i really admire Steve coming back for a second crack after being hit the first time by the fool on the moped, his approach of slow, long days doesn't seem to allow him the recovery time that Amanda Coker or the US guy, Kurt (surname slips my ol...

Bothies do seem to be one of the "fashions" at the moment, the other being going for a "short ride", i follow a local Norfolk Microadventures group on Facebook, which popped up in the wake of Alistair Humphreys book. They all drive to a "Wild" beach or wood with full 80...

I like The Bike Show, very relaxed podcasting style, often listen to it when i bivvy to unwind. Few other good ones which i have found people may be interested in and have relevant info: - Cycle Systems Academy - last show was fat bikes, but covers all topics. - The Hookit Podcast - interviews with ...

Jason Woodhouse is a good bloke, met him doing Newcastle to London a couple of years ago and he has huge experience doing this, including Round the World race, TCR, Route 66 race, Trans Am, Race Around Ireland etc, nice guy too. Worth following on Twitter @boyonhisbike for his various exploits.

Have a look at Elite Pave' bottle cage too, it has an adjusting wheel on the front to tighten it.
