Re: WRT 2014

Doh rocklobstercat, I'd have been well up for entering and doing a car-share, but can't get the Monday off work :( Give me a shout if you ever fancy getting out for a local trip out though

Re: The post man's been ...

Today the postie brought me a pair of graduated neutral density filters for the SLR, an ND4 and an ND8 to go with the ND2 I've already got. Now waiting on a pair of 16gb cards and a mounting ring for the filters for my 10-20mm lens. Not bikepacking kit, but will be used on bikepacking trips! Next pu...

Brilliant video. As above, not sure if I could be bothered with the faffage myself, but truly inspiring to watch!

OT FS: Sigma 105mm f2.8 Macro lens, Canon fit

Selling my Sigma 105mm f2.8 Macro lens as I'm just not using it and could do with some other kit to make my camera gear more bike-portable. It's a Canon fit, been using it on trusty Canon 400D. Bought about 3 years ago, and fitted to the camera a grand total of about 5 times, in pretty much as-new c...

Re: Where are my knickers?

Never seen knickers hanging from a fence but I have seen dead moles hanging from them but not for a while. Do farmers still employ mole catchers and if so, why? Beautiful creatures when seen up close, i'm always amazed at how burrowing animals keep their fur dirt free. There's a fence in Whitfield ...

Not bikepacking kit, but the bottles might see use on bikepacking trips when they're not adorning the road bike during triathlons

Re: Brands?

Nothing in particular, but as above I wouldn't touch anything graced with the branding of Bear Grylls either. Took a dislike to him years back in the run up to him crossing the Atlantic in 2003 when he did his best to big it up by slagging off the people that had tried before him. Complete muppet ev...

Re: Hadrians Wall Ravensglass to South Shields

Been looking at the routes this afternoon. Current plan is from Durham head across to Consett, then over to Ebchester, both on NCN routes. At Ebchester, cut across to Stocksfield, picking up the Hadrian's Cycleway and following it as far as Whitehaven. Then from Whitehaven, do the full C2C to Sunder...

Re: Hadrians Wall Ravensglass to South Shields

Resurrecting this as dug it out having recalled seeing it a while ago and currently thinking of using this route to get a C2C in without having to get transport to the start. Ride from Durham over to South Shields, follow the Hadrian's Cycleway over to the west coast, and then ride the C2C to Sunder...

Re: Alpkit Bikepacking Storage

Like the look of that Lowe Pro top loader. I bought a Nova a while ago with the aim of wearing it across my chest secured to my backpack straps, but it's a bit square and bulky. Might invest in a top loader and play around with securing it to the bars. Also need to get a Gorillapod as had a couple o...

Re: Other (associated) interests?

Ah, how could I forget, drinking tea! Last trip me and the wife went on we spent several hours sat in the sun drinking loads of tea and getting sunburnt. Brilliant way to spend warmer weekends. Good job as well as getting paid I get free tea from work, more than I can ever work my way through each m...

Do some hill reps whilst out running, and go at them as hard as you can to find your max HR for running

Re: Other (associated) interests?

I'm kinda of the school of thought that I do these things in my spare time for enjoyment and pleasure. And I don't tend to force restrictions on how I'm able to enjoy myself. My preferred navigation method is neither maps nor GPS however. I tend to argue with the wife, give up and go the way she thi...

Re: Meeting the Author of Extreme Sleeps

Well I've been reading it off-and-on over the past week whilst off work, as well as Dividing The Great and some fiction. I've not finished it yet (probably about 70% through it), but I've got to the point of finding it difficult to get myself to go back to it. The first few chapters were great and h...

Re: coffee on the go

I'm tempted to give the coffee bags a go, although I had one for the first time last Saturday on a flight and it was a bit weak and rubbish despite being left to brew for a good five or six minutes. That could be down them being cheap ones on an EasyJet flight though, so I am prepared to give some d...

C2C with the wife, sticking to the Sustrans route, which will also involve B&Bs. Off-road C2C without the wife, camping as I go. The Great Divide. Would love to do it in one hit, but more likely to be spread over a few years. And as of discovering it yesterday, the Trans Andalus. As above, would...

Re: Decent podcasts/things to listen to?

I used to rely on music to get me out running, but recently I've been out without to get used to it. Thought it'd do my head initially, but I actually seem to prefer it. I do still enjoy the occasional boost from a suitable song, mind. Rock N Roll All Nite by Kiss, for example, is a prime running song

vaguely exciting thread! Some great ideas to have a go at, particularly loving the custard and angel delight ideas! Need to get myself a MyTiMug or similar sorted soon, as we're currently using mess tins and they're a pain to carry and keep balanced on the stove. And for reference, the words "p...

Well brought it up last night over dinner, and managed to talk her into coming with me, but we'll just be doing the Lite. Wanted: Inbred or similar

I'm looking for something like an Inbred (or similar) frame to build up into a rigid bikepacking/commuting/whatever bike. Happy with either 26" or 29" wheels, looking at either 18" or 20" frames. Also on the lookout for a rigid fork to go with.
