Re: What are you reading now?

No spoilers! When I researched The Year I found that riding the railway lines was common in the USA as it was a better choice than waggon trails. Many did it on penny farthings .. nuts In a moment of idle curiosity I was going to try and dig out a photo of railway lines in 1890s America to see what...

Re: What are you reading now?

I’m well into Round The World on a Wheel and am loving every page. Just got past the passage where they got off their bikes and fought Cossacks with pistols and fisticuffs. So much more entertaining than the modern social media friendly tales of endurance boredom. These guys rode on fumes for days, ...

Smells suspiciously of an AI generated site/idea/wind-up/scam

Googling the founders brings up not a lot for supposed industry experts. The Trustpilot reviews are fake.

Have we done this Ganesha stove?

https://www.ganeshacookstoveproject.com/

I can’t see anything that hasn’t been done before here yet good marketing has got them a sh11t tonne of backing. Maybe should turn our influencer hats on and get Stu funded for a new stove?

Re: That Tent Question

I’ve got a Big Agnes Fly Creek which I really rate. I used it hiking the Cape Wrath Trail in some horrific weather and it held up. Definitely needs the footprint as the base is way too flimsy and it has to be put up inner first which is pants in bad weather. Not enough to make me look elsewhere thou...

Early bikepackers? fraser-1899.jpg So much to see here. 1) the hats, no straps so they were heading off at a leisurely pace 2) the pose of the guy in the middle, I suspect frilly knickers and maybe a corset I can't even work out how he is standing up? 3) racks AND framebags 4) no beards 5) could ar...

2018 were wet. REALLY wet. There was no way you were getting round that one with any part of your clothing not being soaked. Surprisingly about 12hrs in, the weather cleared out. Of course by then it was dark so you needed to keep moving just to stay warm. That was the year of Mr Barter nearly depa...

Re: Has bike packing (off the beaten track ) gone full circle?

My 1st week long tour in 1986 aged 14 with a mate was on a handbuilt steel road bike with 14 speed downtube shifters, a couple of pages torn out of an old road atlas, a cheap steel rack and even cheaper nylon panniers. Everything worked, nothing broke and I survived! Happy days 14 speed! You lucky ...

Re: Garmin oregon 600 info req

There is a way by hacking the map style on the device. I really don’t recommend it as you need to know how the Garmin styles work. If you have a typ file on the Oregan then you can edit the style for the Route or Track line. It’s quite involved as typ is a weird format. I have never tried it myself

Parkrun was considerably faster at 19:31. Can’t work out why as I felt pretty destroyed in the last kilometre.

Re: Osmand v maps . Me

The massive advantage of OSMAND is that you can add to the map if it is wrong/missing information by becoming an OSM map editor. It's a great app and is privacy focused whereas Google will use whatever workaround they can to get your data.
