Re: Another HT550 Video

You should do it again with chamois cream and sudo cream as you clearly have the abilty to do the whole route I'm going to. But let's be clear as I say in the video the arse was a secondary excuse (also I was creamed to the hilt, it was the shorts that caused the problem). I need to get my head rou...

1. Plug Gamin into MAC Via USB cable, open GARMIN driven then drop GPX files into the GPX folder. You can access them using Track Manager on the Dakota and display them by selecting "Show on Map" 2. No 3. No, your tracklog will be added to the GPC\Current\Current.gpx file until you do a re...

Re: Another HT550 Video

Top vid. Love the swearing at the route makers. Music was spot on too. Shame you didn't finish, stupid sore arse. I hope you're doing the BB200, lots of opportunity to swear at the route maker there. Yes, I'm in. The end of the vid is quite raw and I've sat down and had a long chat with myself. I t...

"The most apalling camera work ever. "

Is that a category in the annual awards? I'll forgive the spelling and say a big "thanks" for your blog which formed a major part of my planning.

Another HT550 Video

I had a go at the route in June, did I make it? I'll spare you the suspense. No. But I kept a video blog for the days I rode and have stitched it together into this video. It is quite long I'm afraid and contains a LOT of swearing. Also, forgive the small section of misaligned voice I'll fix this so...

Re: Whilst pushing up Black Sail pass.....

I developed a technique for when I took my bike to the top of the UK 3 highest peaks. I took the wheels off and strapped the bike frame to my pack. I then used the wheels as "walking poles". This worked a treat for long extended hikes but is clearly a pain for short sections. I found wheel...

I'm just back from doing half of the route in 3 days. Had to bale out with major arse issues after a complete battering. I think the decision is sound as you cannot know how big an ask the distance and terrain is within the time period. Write up to follow soon

Re: HT550 Route

Thanks both, I'm a bit torn as I'd like to get the tick and am comfortable with 100 mile+ days, I reckon I could do it in 6-7 days, I don't tend to do "touring pace" driven by impatience to see what's round the next corner ;-)

Might let the weather decide.

HT550 Route

I've got a week in June when I could set out for 7 days unhindered bike packing. I've re-awakened the idea of doing the HT550 route (or similar) but speaking to a few guys at the WRT they advised that there is a LOT of hike-a-bike. If this is the case, any idea where so I could tinker the route a bi...

I have the XLS and swear by it. Last year I rode the three peaks (Snowdon, Sca Fell, Nevis) on it carrying a rear bag for my clothes (B&B trip) and a small backpack. Bike was rock solid and equally at home on the road and trails My build was pretty light as well, had to be for the carry up the m...

I cannot thank everyone enough for probably the FRIENDLIEST event I've ever done. Loved the banter at the start/finish and out there on the trails. I have completely seen the light and am already staring at maps and shaving the edges off my jetboil to save weight.

Just brilliant.
