Re: It's a bag ... not a bomb
I carry my DSLR on my chest (Lowepro Toploader 55). At first I used the proper chest harness for the bag and just didn't get on with it. The bag would hang down, bounce about and get close to my knees whilst pedalling. To get round this, I scrapped the harness and ended using four mini-carabiners be...

Re: The perfect trip and new riding partners?
Yeah, we were very lucky with the weather though, a week earlier there had been lots of snow. The difference in temperature between the mountains and valleys at night was extreme too. That was the advantage of a van carrying our gear, I took a massive sleeping bag rated to minus god knows what and l...

Re: The perfect trip and new riding partners?
I went with Freeride Morocco, I'd already been on a trip with them before when they were based in Spain (not the trip I bailed on!). It was a five day trip going across the Atlas mountains, we stayed in gites and a van took all our gear to the next nights accommodation. We started in a place called ...

Re: The perfect trip and new riding partners?
So what's your ideal trip location and riding attitude? If you'd asked me this a year or two ago, I could have given you a list as long as my arm of various locations around the world. Now I have been to a few more places though, it's all about how good the riding/terrain is and being with decent f...

Re: FS: Siren Song 650B soft-tail frame (med)
:) Tell me about it! I bought this as my dream bikepacking bike (small lie, I couldn't afford a Moots YBB!) and never thought it would be something I'd sell. Even though I bought it second hand, it cost me over a grand by the time I'd paid the postage and other fees. I even bought a new carbon Lefty...

Re: 140mm Travel Frame with a Custom Frame Bag?
Hi Ian, thanks but I don't get on with Nicolai's standard sizing...they have long seat-tubes in relation to the toptube lengths (dropper seatpost issue more than anything else). I nearly ordered a custom one before I bought my Ibis, the price was getting on for 3k though! Yes, I've still got the sir...

Re: 140mm Travel Frame with a Custom Frame Bag?
Cheers for that FLV, I'd never considered a Scott...I'm liking the look of some of their raw aluminium frames. I've currently got a frame swap advert over on Singletrack , think I might just be better sticking to my original plan and selling my frame though. I should end up with an extra few hundred...

Re: 140mm Travel Frame with a Custom Frame Bag?
Don't mention Liteville! A mate has a 301, I'd love one but no chance on my budget. I may have to change my fork to find a suitable frame, as that is the only reason I need a tapered headtube. The ironic thing about me having this clearout is that I'll be using the money to buy computer and camera g...

140mm Travel Frame with a Custom Frame Bag?
Hi, I was wondering if anyone out there is using such a thing? Looks like I'm going to have to consolidate my bikes and just have one do-it-all bike...all I need to buy is a frame and will be able to use the parts off my other bikes, as none are suitable for all my needs. Whatever I get will prefera...

Re: Seat packs
Yeah, you're right about the different models...a while back he used to just use 'SL' to denote the lightweight ones, don't know why he changed that? Anyway, I have a couple of his bags and I'm very happy with them. My seatbag is a medium, it's still quite big though and I'm pleased I didn't go for ...

Re: alpkit frame bags
I don't think any of the custom bags out there are bad are they? They're all make in relatively small numbers by folk who want their customers to be happy with the product. Buy what you can afford or like the look of...I don't think most folks' see enough use to wear them out quickly. If you do plan...

Hats off to you for deciding to do this! Just wondering if you looked into any of the Russian custom builders as well?
EDIT: Oh, if you use meths you should have one of the tubes made as a fuel canister...a bit like Mike Curiak's Snoots!

Re: How do you do it...?
I can't weigh you lot up...if you've gotta go, you've gotta go! I know some folk who actually carry a bottle just for peeing in. Although a plastic bag or something made of waxed cardboard (could be folded flat) would be better for bikepacking.

FS: Siren Song 650B soft-tail frame (med) Price Reduced!
Hi, the frame is a Siren Song soft-tail with 40mm of travel and was designed around 650B wheels. It's a medium, like most medium frames it has a 23" toptube (eff), seat-tube is 17" to top of top-tube but the full length is 21" (makes sense in the pic). Weight is 4.8lbs. The front tria...

Re: Wingnut Packs
I find the 3L Source bladders to work well in the Wingnut packs (I've a 2.5 and a 3). You can just fill it up to 2.5L and fold the excess over, and of course I can fill it right up when using the bigger bag. A top tip from me is to place a square of foil backed bubblewrap in with the bladder to insu...

I was there at the end of January...we did a five day, point-to-point trip with Freeride Morocco. It wasn't bikepacking though, it was a guided route with a van taking all our kit to each nights accommodation. The van driver was the chef too, he would meet us halfway into a ride and make our dinner....

Take earplugs...I've been woken by rain before and couldn't get back to sleep.

Re: You carry more, so you eat more ... so have to carry mor
I think you're right about everyones own 'make up'. I weigh 10 stone and haven't an ounce of fat on me. Even with a large breakfast, I would struggle towards the end of a hard 3 hour ride without extra fuel. Others I ride with don't seem to have this problem. It isn't like I don't eat enough either,...

Re: Bargain Alert Thread
Bike workstand with free Minoura multi-tool from Merlin . £49.95! Great value. I think quite a few companies are knocking these out under their own name, Edinburgh Bike Co and Fat Spanner being two. I've had one of these for a few years and it's spot on. Even though they're fairly chunky, they fold...

Re: You carry more, so you eat more ... so have to carry mor
I suppose a lot of it depends on the route you're doing and hard you push yourself...you can still get rest on a bike whilst still moving, on certain parts anyway. The last trip I set off to do, I wasn't sure how far I'd be able to cover on the first day or how much I'd need to eat. I just concentra...
