Re: My last CX related Q ... honest.

I'd go for running the cables under the full length of the bar tape and avoid those two rather goofy looking loops of cable hanging under your bars, getting in the way of a harness, hooking branches and garrotting badgers. My opinion only of course. I used to run bar ends on a set of randonneur bars...

Nice work that. Been meaning to have a go at this as well for exactly the same reasons. I read somewhere that tyvek can be pretty noisy and stiff until you give it a go in the washing machine.

Re: 29+ for bikepacking

f I had the money I'd get the Travers Rudy over ..... Yep, me too. Never ridden 29+ but Ive got an On One* Fatty and an Inbred 29er and have often wondered what their love child would be like. That Rudy is a stunning bike ... * BTW, I don't understand the stick that On One get from STW. Ive bought ...

Chaps and chapelles, I've never met any of you but I've found this website and the community of people who inhabit it to be incredibly engaging and hugely helpful. And just plain friendly. Which counts. Neil, good luck in your recovery. I hope the money raised here helps, even if only to raise your ...

Brilliant idea. What about route database where you put in the desired location, duration of ride, average speed and technical difficult and the app recommends a route with water sources, pubs and suggestions for overnight bivy spots? Keep thinking tyre selector - put in the location and your riding...

Thanks for that. Been waiting for the 20l dual ended dry bags to be restocked. With an ounce of luck it'll be here before I head off to Long Mynd for a Long Weekend.

And hopefully it wont turn manufacturers to cheaper sources of down from producers that engage in some pretty unsavoury practices, such as live plucking. Horrific thing to do to an animal.

Re: Headset question.

Evening. I think there was an FSA Orbit that came tapered 11/8 to 11/4 and integrated as I had one on a Condor road bike (I think so anyway) any 5 years ago. Was listening to my local bike shop manager thos morning bemoaning the myriad of headset standards these days and how hard it was to keep stoc...

Ordered a fuel pod last night. For £15 how can you go wrong ... then I accidentally added one of those little orange trumpety thingies for an iPhone (I don't actually HAVE an iPhone), then one of those nice little lamp/torch thingies that has been getting great reviews in the outdoor mags (and here ...

What's on your wish list?

Having just seen the light and bought an OO Fatty I'm thinking some frame bags. The low and wide dual top tube of the Fatty is just crying out for a nice long bag to hold a water bladder and poles.

Re: Lets imagine ...

Gonna go off on a tangent cos this got me thinking (great thread BTW), mostly about how cheaply I could put together gear for a night away rather than spending the full £150. In fact, as a tight (former) Northerner, I felt it necessary to push the budget down to £20 and spent a half hour on eBay. Ta...

Re: Seam sealing with silnet

Yep, do everything that has a stitch in it that's gonna leak on you. Silnet's good stuff - just run the tube along the seam squeezing it out as you go and use a paint brush to even it out. Seems have to be taut when you do it and make sure you let the stuff dry properly before you roll up the tent o...

Ritchey P29er? Not sure I could live with the colour scheme and not cheap. Singular Swift? Never ridden one but said to be great and pretty good value for around £400.

Lovely bike. Shame to be selling it but I know the feeling. SWMBO in my place has installed a "one in, one out" policy. What are you thinking re a fat bike? I'm a recent convert with a new On One Fatty moving in last week. It's brilliant fun and rides a lot lighter and is more agile than I...

Sil Mini-Peak? Not quite the same approach but reasonable weight and a good price. I'd go for the Lair though - thing of beauty, that is.

Ive got a Cumulus Ultralite 350 which is ok down to 0C with a good mat, and I lay my down jacket over the top if it gets colder. Would love a lightweight quilt. The Revelation ones look great and there's a great review of a big selection of quilts and bags available in the US at this link: http://ww...
