Re: Sonder Camino - toe overlap

does a bike with a longer wheel base suffer less? and what in a design causes it? A bike with longer wheelbase may suffer less but it's more to do with FC (front centre, BB to front axle) than wheelbase. Wheelbase is the addition of chainstay length and FC (I know, it's not really, due to BB drop b...

Re: Sonder Camino - toe overlap

Jumped on to look at the geo chart for the Camino and surprised to see the same numbers for dropbar and flatbar bikes. Is that a typo or are they using the same frame? Not knocking them, just seems odd. I know at Shand since we had a bit of a crossover with drop/flat bar bikes it always seemed liked...

Re: QR v Thru Axles

I think this is one of those areas where tradition seems to have trumped functionality. If we were to start from scratch and design an axle/frame interface and we assume that a (very) quick way of removing the wheel wasn't a requirement, then we wouldn't end up with what we know as a QR system. I'm ...

The Shand thing never really happened although there were a few prototypes kicking around (Rickie Cotter rode one on her TDR ride), Emily Chappell won the Strathpuffer a couple of years ago on one. I still ride one.

Dunno what Stu paid for those but Lomo do a range of good value neoprene booties (not quite the wellies that are pictured). Always found them warm canoeing in the Lakes. Think your cooling issue would be when exposed to the direct wind, in a boat I guess they're pretty sheltered? Aren't the Lomo bo...

What rear mech are you using to get that to work?

Re: Distance between top bearing and the stem

But the bung is just to pre-load the bearings so if you've whanged it that tight (to split a steerer) shirley operator-error  I thought the same but after re-reading, I think the point he's making is that the bung provides additional support for the steerer when the stem is tightened. In this...

Re: Minimal rear rack like this

One issue with M4 (isn't most M5 anyway?) hardware is that when the fasteners inevitably get seized, there's a much better chance of snapping them during removal potentially leaving a real problem in the frame.

Not sure I would lump Tubus in the same category as Salsa/Surly.

I'm sorted for bivvi/tarp stuff so looking for tent suggestions. Mr Barrington pointed me TrekkerTent Stealth which I like the look of but not sure i...

Re: Bar end shifters

What are you hoping to gain by ditching the Ultegra? If I was speccing a new bike with bar-end shifters, Ultegra would be my first choice. If I couldn't get them then the older Dura-Ace (BS-77??) would be next (or maybe even first).

But to be fair, none of what you were setting up had anything to do with Rohloff no?

We use the OEM2 axle plate almost exclusively now. Much neater but does mean the mudguard/rack eyelet needs to be in the correct place.
