Re: Exped Synmat UL
I made my own 'schnozzle' pump bag for my synmat using a 30l bin liner and a plastic adapter for connecting a washing machine to waste pipe. Blows up the mat in about 3 - 4 fills of the bag and it weighs practically nothing.

Yep, no problems at all with rough terrain. I did the west highland way with it last weekend which has some really rough descents.

I've got one of these - it mounts to either the stem or bars: http://www.evanscycles.com/product_image/image/d26/944/8da/101048/product_page/topeak-smartphone-drybag-5.jpg http://www.evanscycles.com/products/topeak/smartphone-drybag-5-ec049293?utm_source=froogle&utm_medium=froogle&utm_campai...

I've got a couple of these - for £2.83 they are hard to beat and take a single AA battery.

I think a Fatbike is more ATB than a 'mountain bike'.Andrew wrote:What about calling yourself an all terrain biker as the use of ATB seems to have fallen out of favour.

I agree - I love multi day bike packing adventures but I also really enjoy going to a trail centre - as you say, it's all just riding bikes.Cheeky Monkey wrote:It's just people on bikes. Just because they're on bikes doesn't mean they've anymore part of the same group than anyone else.

Re: New Alpkit Bikepacking Gear
Just those 2 little white bits of velcro taking the weight then? Yeah I'll see how i get on - there's not much weight in the bag and they overlap a good bit - it feels solid. I've got another couple of straps which can go round the bars and under the bag for extra support if it proves to be an issu...

Re: New Alpkit Bikepacking Gear
OK, finished the harness - probably took around 3 hours to make after all the faffing I did but material costs would have been around £12. This includes a cheap bar extender I had lying about which I've used to keep the bag away from the head tube. I also used an old kids table mat to give the main ...

Re: New Alpkit Bikepacking Gear
In reality it's similar to everything else in that regard. How well you fit it and pack it will determine if or where it touches/rubs. The harness in the pic looks to be mounted very high, it looks like there are additional loops that will allow you to mount it lower. I'm pretty sure the additional...

Been looking at different designs for my harness project and noticed that the new Alpkit harness doesn't seem to protect the drybag from the brake levers very well :

These would be a cheap option at £4.99 if you've got standard bars :

Re: New Alpkit Bikepacking Gear
Bit gutted at the prices - £55 for the handlebar harness seems crazy for a piece of material with some straps sewn on. If they're that cheap and easy to make why not make your own? ... should only take a couple of minutes and cost a few quid. I'll probably just keep using an airlok xtra strapped to...

Here you go :

Just had a look at the wildcat harness - £55 seems absolutely extortionate for what it is. I've never had any issues with just an airlok xtra mounted direct.

Re: A new camera
Just something to bear in mind - the Sony NEX cameras aren't full frame 35mm sensors like you were used to with your old film SLR. They use an APS-C sensor which is about 40% smaller at about 22mm - the 4/3 are smaller again. Both formats are still considerably larger than the the sensors you would ...

Good job - I'd meant to do something like this for our SUW trip a few weeks ago but ended up up just strapping the drybag to the bars with 2 normal straps.

You could just use an airlok xtra drybag from alpkit - the 13l version is only £8.50 delivered.

Re: Got a Neoair? Dont like being dizzy whilst blowing it up
I use "The Instaflator" that I picked up cheaply on Ebay. It weighs next to nothing and doesn't put any moisture into my Neo. It even rolls up with it and both together fit in the Neo's bag http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yJLVYfg88TE I'm not sure if this was the company I used, but it's av...
