Yeah, my sister and her husband swore by Saunders until they needed something 'even better' for canoe camping and Saunders closed. For £50 delivered, I thought I could hardly go wrong. I also have three Jetpacker's I've picked up on eBay...

Was in the local B&M Bargain store too, on charge now, will report back. They've probably got a single 18650 cell in them, but if it'll hold a good charge, a fiver is a great price.

Tent repair?

I've just bagged a Saunders Spacepacker Plus with a hopefully pretty minor fault, eBay listing said "developed a small tear on one of the four doors, repaired with adhesive repair patches but ultimately due to the location will eventually fail again". Not received it yet, but has anyone go...

1) If they're made of cling film, presumably they need something underneath them if you're not in a tent? What would the panel recommend?
2) If they do tear, are they repairable in the field / when you get back home?

I run Carnegies on the Hemlock and Marys on the commuter, hoping the new On-One OG will have a fair bit of rise as well as sweep... can you comment?

Re: Please tell me about singlespeeds

Indeed, as I've seen said of the Cleland: why would you use a bike which is largely based on trickle-down race technology when you're doing an average of 6mph off-road? I'm aware that super-human endurance racers can go a lot faster than this, but I think it's a fair point for many mere mortals.

Re: Please tell me about singlespeeds

Interesting reading about the Stooge design. In terms of getting the weight off one's hands, it's somewhat similar to Geoff Apps' Cleland design. The thing I like least about my otherwise very lovely, recently resurrected '92 Xizang frame is the way it pushes too much weight onto my hands. I've trie...

It'll be popular for a while and then fade again, like (say) Trailquest. And as has been said above, if you don't want to see anyone, avoid the honeypot areas. I rode Dales-Forest of Bowland-Dales-Howgills-Lakes-Noth Pennines over the course of an August bank holiday week in '97 or so, and met very ...

How big is the charge thing? It looks like a very neat solution to a generally very expensive problem Cheap and not very well protected (electrically). Can burn out on fast descents or when the attached device is fully charged. Lots of discussion of such devices here: https://yacf.co.uk/forum/index...

Once had the outer part of the parallelogram of a rear mech shear for no apparent reason, was totally fooked. Fortunately only a three mile scoot / walk back home. Also had a Control Tech 'sealed' bearing jockey wheel explode on me in the middle of the North York Moors, which resulted in my first fo...

Re: Cheap(er) dynamo to USB power option

This has not been tested in anger, but I think all you really need is: Dynamo -> Full Wave Rectifier -> Crowbar Protection Circuit with Blocking Diode -> Smoothing Capacitor -> 5v Switching Regulator -> USB socket Then, if the dynamo kicks out anything greater than the breakdown voltage of the zener...

You could do, but you'll be most likely be reducing your charge current considerably.

Re: Cheap(er) dynamo to USB power option

But - is this really all you need to regulate the power from a dynamo to make a 5v USB connection work, like a Plug, or is it simply a battery output regulator that won't handle a dynamo at 30mph+? http://www.pokingthingswithsticks.com/projects/bicycle-iphone-and-usb-charging/battery-output/ If it'...

I've got to say that so long as its protection circuitry is working properly, that little device looks like a right bargain and makes DIY options a lot less attractive. Most of the cheaper USB battery packs don't allow you to charge / discharge at the same time, but these certainly do: http://amzn.t...

Zendure battery packs can do charge and discharge at the same time, but they're mysteriously silent since their Kickstarter campaign. Should be available again later in the year though, I love mine...

Saunders Jetpacker from eBay. Usually go for around 80quid in decent condition. No longer made, but a proper 1-2 man tent for 1.25kg. Outer first / outer only with an ingenious telescopic pole system.
