Re: Magnetic dynamo connectors

This looks like neodymium magnets and spade connectors wrapped in heat shrink. Can easily be made for buttons from eBay / Maplin parts. e.g. epoxy or Sugru some of these into these leaving the exposed magnet face clean and clear, making sure you orient the magnets in pairs so they attract. The magne...

Re: A question about lights

My preference on-road is to use a not-too-bright front light with a flare setting, pssibly angled down below windscreens. This attracts attention by saying "I'm a bike" without annoying drivers too much. The Cateye Volt 300 is a good option. Also be wary of over-bright rear lights. I often...

Re: Gpx on phone or buy a garmin thingy ?

Never had a problem with and Android phone, OruxMaps, bootlegged OS or IGN (France) maps, as long as properly waterproofed and with an external battery pack. Admittedly, I'm still refining the solution, but it's pretty close now. I use these to mount the phone to the bars: http://road.cc/content/tec...

Re: More dynamo woe.

If anyone has an SP dynamo with bad bearings that they could let me have or borrow, I'd like to take a look at the bearing set-up and whether they could have better grease put in them when new to help with longevity. Don't mind paying postage.

Also on Amazon via Maplin: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00FJ7C14W

Note that power input is mini (PS3 controller power plug) rather than micro USB (standard Android charge plug).

Re: Sorry but which pass through powerbank?

I have a Zendure (mine is a 1st-gen A5, but this is more the size you're looking for): http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01AXZUMOK ...and the family has several of these from PortaPow: http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01EI5GTXY Both do pass-through. Main differences: * Zendure switches on automatically when a ...

Re: Glueless patches?

Park work fine, but I've had them melt / slide in 30+C heat and cause a slow puncture or need replacing. I'd use them to get you home and then do a proper patch when you can.

Re: Chemins Du Soleil

The VTOPO books are highly recommended in general. I have several, and they've rarely let me down.

It was the Vanoise National Park I was thinking of in particular, but looking at the map again, the two short sections which the GR5 passes through are either HaB or easily bypassed on road.

Re: Chemins Du Soleil

Presumably you have to detour round the national parks where VTTing isn't allowed and the GR5 passes through them?

How much Hike-a-Bike in the actual GR5 route (or whatever you did)?

I'm surprised that this hasn't yet been done by anyone here, or indeed as an ITT. Looks pretty epic:

Re: GPX - please help

I'd also use the bikehike 'reduce' facility (under 'options') to reduce the number of points in the track to 20-50% of the current number. I believe the eTrex behaves in that way when there are too many points on the route.

How do folks make bar rolls work with Drop Bars, especially those where the shifters swing inboard when shifting. Pictures always welcome!

I used my phone (Xperia z) for navigation in East Greenland with no mobile signal and no problem. As the maps for the area are crap (1:100,000) I just cached satellite imagery on it which was very useful. Could you see tracks etc on the satellite imagery? The OruxMaps application on Android allows ...

Re: iHarbort buffer battery

Is there any particular merit to plugging your device direct into a C2C, as opposed to plugging into a battery that supports pass-through which is connected to the C2C? Some devices don't respond well to a charge current which switches on-and-off a lot, as may do with a C2C or similar when you are ...

Cycle2Charge Reliability?

I've seen that quite a few of us here are now using the Cycle2Charge Dynamo USB widget, but I've also seen a few reports of them having to go back to the manufacturers to be fixed. If you're using one, I think it would be useful to get a summary of your experiences, and if it's gone wrong, under wha...
