Ok, no :D

Most of us wouldn't due to aesthetics is my guess, but practically, no reason at all.
The rough stuff fellowship were at this before most of us were born, and saddlebags worked for those guys....

Re: Packraft fanciers ...

mmm, not convinced by that. I can't imagine anything weighing 700gm is going to be strong enough to cope with having a bike strapped to it,no matter how many tie ons you get 'em to fit. plus it looks very unstable to paddle, the guy spends the few seconds we see of the raft in action with his feet o...

Re: Is it always about the bike?

I love my ski touring/mountaineering in the winter, snowholing etc.
Though I am just about to pick up a fat bike for snow and summer "hell biking"!!

Re: New Bike Time

I looked at this before I got the singular, it says on the site that it is made for a 130 travel fork so wasn't sure what the head angle would be with a Salsa FargoV2, which is what I wanted to run on it.
If I was in the market for a hardtail trail bike though, this would be up there for sure.

Re: New Bike Time

Singular Swift? I have a Hummingbird and the farme rides really well and the build quality is great. I also have an Ogre hanging on the wall awaiting build-up, really nice frame with lots of drop out options, including Rohlof. I would avoid a Carbon frame if you intend fitting frame bags, I think th...

Re: Sleeping bags again (synthetic)

I have a Mountain Hardware Lumina that is good to about -6 or so, packs pretty small and is around 1.6 kg. I used it for snow holing and camping on ski mountaIneering trips and it was great. The mat makes a big difference. I just got a new bag last week but also picked up a new Exped down mat yester...

Re: a trip to the cairngorms next week

Plenty of snow at the moment. Not sure where the inner loop actually goes but if it is through the Laraigh an Laoigh expect it to be pretty soggy at the least. Parts of Glen Tilt will be pretty wet too I would think, mainly the section north of the Falls of Tarf. There is a shelter at Fords of Avon ...

Re: 4 season bag

Hi Barney, I have a Lamina -7 bag that I use for snow holing when ski mountaineering here in winter and it's fine. For a synthetic bag rated so low I am amazed at how small it packs. To be honest a good down bag rated that low will be a little over the 1 kg, unless you want to pay an insane amount. ...

Re: Aviemore routes?

Hi Flatfishy, you could go up the old logging way to Glenmore-Ryvoan pass to Forest Lodge-Nethy Bridge-Boat of Garten then onto Wades old road at the Carrbridge junction, over the Sluggan Bridge, pick up the Burma road and descend that to the A9 crossing for Aviemore. Plenty of good bivi spots out t...

FS Singular Hummingbird frame/fork

Having just ordered a Surly Ogre for bike packing I need to sell my Hummingbird. For those that don't know it's a 69 er, but can be run 26 with 120 forks. Size large, though I normally use a M and apart from the long TT I find it fits fine. I have only used it for touring and it's only done around 1...

WTD, cheep 29 rear wheel

I am looking for a fairly cheap rear 29er just to get me going, something like a Deore etc, tyre too maybe if someone had one to go with it. I am on the fence re going this way and don't want to spend a lot at this stage, especially as I am planning to get a Pugs in the next few weeks!! So what yer ...

Gone a little mad over the past few weeks... Fargo forks with matching anything cages, TN Laser Comp, new DMR flats and some new Jones bars.
trying to resist going 29 both ends, but I fear it may be a losing battle!! anyone fancy a singular Hummingbird frame?

Re: Cheap night riding lights recommendations.

Hi Ray, I have a set of the MTBBATTERIES and think it's great for the price, so much so that I may get a second set this winter for running one on the bars and one on the helmet. Pretty bright on the full setting, i know the Exposure are nice but I can't really justify the price for the riding I do....

Re: Tangle bags?

I got my Revelate gear from Veloista in Switzerland, though they are shipped from Germany so no VAT etc. Took around 5 days to arrive. Very happy with the service etc.
Check their website for prices.

I have a tangle but haven't got round to using it yet, well made though.

Re: How many people pack a first aid kit?

I do, habit for me as I used to work as a river guide/kayak coach and ski tour guide. Usual MLTB,SMBA, BCU approved packs, but as has been said, the best first aid kit you can buy is of little use if you lack the knowledge, experience and confidence to use it. Will you be bringing your uniform next ...
