Re: The post man's been ...

@Dusza, how did you fit a dunno hub to a 135 fork? I really wanted a dyno hub on mine but couldn't find a solution, would be interested to see what you did/got.

Re: The post man's been ...

Hi Nobby, Alfine8 with a 24-22 ring combo. Great for deep snow etc but wll probably run an 18 rear for spring onwards. As it is a loaded bike that will get used when I suspect the ground may be hard on a 29er I am happy to run it pretty low.

@Yetiman, remind me closer to the date and I shall post it to Oban hostel for you to pick up, you can then post back to me or we can meet in Aviemore/Glenmore when you do the loops, whichever works for you.

Re: How's your year been? Pics and captions pls!

I am away from home at the moment but will post a few when I get back this eve. Just a quick question James, I was toying with doing the Camino next year, good ride? And what are the options for bivvi nights along the way? Not every night but if the Alberges get a bit much occasionally or are full e...

FS 69er, Lrg Singular Hummingbird and fork

I bought this about 9 months ago, and really like it, but I find it a little long for me so I have bought an Ogre. So having finally stripped this for parts for the Pugs, and the Ogre waiting in the wings, It is time to sell it on. I used it mainly for bikepacking so there are a few marks from the b...

Re: Gutted ... nothing happened.

No Stu, many happy memories of that bothy. I used to work at OB Rhowniar in the mid eighties, and then freelanced at various centres and that was one of the popular exped stops if we were coming over from the Rhinogs etc. Plus myself and S O would stay there if we were doing the Arenig walk. Still i...

Re: Whats your favourite Matt?

I have a POE ether compact reg I use in the "not winter". Not sure the weight but I think round 350-400gm mark. Have to concur with the down mat, I love mine. I don't find the pumping too much of a hassle and bulk/weight are the cost of doing bussiness this time of year for me. You don't n...

Re: Exped downmats?

I see no reason for not using it all year, a little heavier and bulkier than a summer mat but that's all really.
In fairness the size would be about the same as a n other self inflating mat anyway. Comfort is for year round right :D

Not strictly from postie but picked up this weekend. 20in Pugs with Rolling Darryls, Endo/Larry combo and a new pair of Husker Du 120tpi tyres. The rims are with Phil, the tame wheel builder ready to go onto a Surly SS front and Alfine8 rear. Everything else is in the man cave awaiting construction....

Re: Exped downmats?

Yeh I have a standard 7, great mat. I was out the other night with it, in a Bivi bag out in the open. The temp on my thermometer recorded a low of -12.9, I was in Braemar. No problems at all, really comfy too. I tend not to worry to much about the weight for winter stuff(within reason of course) I t...

I was in Moreton in Marsh, I managed a 7-11 store for a few months. Hated it really, the job more than the place, though it was a bit flat for me to be honest.

good snow cover in the Cairngorms

For those that aren't local, there is good snow cover in the cairngorms, on the west side at least. I have chatted to a few friends that have been out ski touring already, the snow being down to around 700mtrs for decent coverage. I am stuck in Braemar at the moment and the cover is not as good here...

Hi Griffdowg, I spent 20 years as a kayak coach and river guide, and have paddle " real" kayaks on rivers up to and including class IV water, so I am sticking with my original assessment, YMMV of course. Having enough displacement is one thing, being stable while doing so another. As for h...

Re: Frameset for BikePacking

I have a Surly Ogre hanging on the wall ready to build up over the winter ready for the spring, and it ticks most of the boxes you are looking at, most anything a tourer(on or off road) could want, except the double top tube though :D I would suggest building one of the bikes you have, my choice wou...
