Sorry about that.
I had loads of company that day - trees, rocks, fenceposts and all sorts were speaking to me :p

Re: HT550 2016 ITT starters

Even catching up to the pack is a pisstake though - if you're at the back of the mass start you're possibly struggling for pace etc, so if there's one bed left in town you don't want to have it taken by someone who didn't get into the mass start but who came along anyway. It's a wider ethical quest...

Speed is not the key to the HT. It's all about keeping going every day. Being the only finisher of CL shows you've got that!

See you in Tyndrum on the 28th ;)

Oh, I also found a pair of gloves at a river crossing near Loch Builg. I dont expect there is much "normal" mtb traffic up there so they probably belong to someone riding the CL. Anyone?

Re: Cairngorm loop grp depart 2016

Looks like Fraser is heading straight down to Blair Atholl missing out the sting in the tail. Can't blame him as I think he would have been looking at a midnight finish if he'd stuck to the route. Yep, I'm at work today so we didn't have time to go round that section. We actually made the decision ...

I'm going to head to the start anyway and see how far I get. Looks like it's thawing fast out there, check the difference in Loch Morlich since Nik posted his photo 4 hours ago:

Re: Cairngorm loop grp depart 2016

Fraser - is that page easy to set up, or is there an easy way to make spot tracking work outside of event tracking pages? Anyone? Tracking is very hit and miss normally - only showing locations from which check in messages are sent. The spot tracker gives you your own personal tracking link. This i...

Re: Cairngorm loop grp depart 2016

Not wasting 12 hour round trip to drag a bike in the snow. I've training to get done for the Tour Divide - unfortunately it makes more sense to do so down here. Would have been good to meet you but your TD training is more important - good luck with that. I was just thinking about you in your role ...

Re: Cairngorm loop grp depart 2016

I think the weather was worse the week before it last year? There's a picture of Inverness here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-highlands-islands-32474717 I didnt make it as far as the outer loop but the inner loop wasnt too bad. There was a bit of snow over the top of Bynack but that was pre...

i think what im getting at by posting this is more about how biking can become to arrogent its all biking and its an open chalange event. I think it's more arrogant to choose to do a ride like this in an intentionally slow manner. It's making all the helpers who are there to keep you fed and keep y...

Re: Do real men have Highland Trail fears?

I think it's good to be scared. Even for those of us who've been round before and know exactly what to expect, if you dont have a little bit of fear then you're probably underestimating it. I wouldn't worry too much about the lack of bothies - they are overrated anyway. Have a look through all the r...

I'll admit to getting slightly confused by the GPX track at the crossing in feshie last year.

Yep, the section of Torridon which has been cut out was the big scramble over the top and the descent which was mostly washed away. It still includes the nice technical descent which was the best part anyway.

Re: Cairngorm loop grp depart 2016

I think the only reason for crossing the bridge is to pass Braemar?
Worst case - we could just stick to the north side of the river and miss out on a restock in Braemar (or backtrack to it from a bridge further up - assuming one of them is still standing)

Our crisps are like your chips Haha, you've just reminded me of one of the low points from last year. Feeling sick on day2, grabbed what I though was a big bag of plain crisps from contin to eat that night - I can usually eat plain crisps no matter how ill I feel. Nope, lemon flavour crisps (YES, L...

If the cable snapped at the shifter end you can set the deraillieur to a suitable gear and lock the loose end of the cable in place against a bottle cage bolt or seatpost clamp.

James. My thoughts, (and anyone feel free to debate or correct me, as it's always good to get others insight ) is that Josh's body was used to working at a higher intensity. He had to close down jp and Neil over the last week. Both jp and Neil where exhausted and had been going for 14 days at a ste...
