Re: HT550 - 2017

I wasn't going a whole lot faster than last year. I stopped at kylesku on the 2nd night last year so I was only around 3 hours up on that this year (with most of that down to a shorter stop on the first night). I did notice that there were a lot more riders around me doing a similar pace this year c...

Re: HT550 - 2017

Fraser is out? Yep, afraid so. Chucked up my dinner last night when i got to suilven bothy. Had a long lie to see if i could sleep it off but still couldnt eat anything in the morning. No way i would have got from there to oykel bridge on empty. It was my own fault. Ate too fast in kylesku and push...

There are settings to choose which types of points get shared. Go to https://www.findmespot.eu/en/ and log into your account. Click "share" option in the menu at the top then click edit for the share on that page. Make sure you've got all the following points shared: http://i.imgur.com/BGA...

Re: HT550 - 2017

From Fort Augustus to Tyndrum last year took me 10h 20 min. Not sure if they can make it today, maybe before midnight. I'm sure I'll see them tomorrow morning. Outstanding effort! I can send an OK location with my tracker but it doesn't track my route. Any ideas? I'm in touch with Scott Morris/trac...

Re: HT Sweepstake - your riders are.

Still no sign of Lars Schmidt on track leaders, at least my tenner is going to a good cause! Each rider has to go and register for themselves on trackleaders and pay the fee before their name shows up in the list. So the fact that he's on the list is a good thing, he just hasnt transmitted any init...

Re: HT550 - 2017

From the HT550 website... I think the website hasn't been updated. Alan was very clear in his email to competitors that you need to follow the route: The GPX track should be followed 100% of the way for a valid completion. There are no optional sections. You should cross the river in Fisherfield on...

Re: HT Sweepstake - your riders are.

How are some of the competitors who are in the sweepstake going to follow their rider. Is this some kind of new race strategy? Dot watching whilst on the move - Do people do that to see where other riders are?? I'll be waiting until I've finished to find out. It's enough effort trying to keep track...

He doesn't appear to be on the completions list but he did do an ITT of the route last year:

Re: HT550 - 2017

Surely from what I gather how folks cope with some of the tracks (judging from two HT participations) I estimate the average HT rider will do much more hiking than 16 miles. It might be a bit on the low side as I might have included some of the hiking in my "technical" category. I should ...

Re: HT550 - 2017

By my reckoning, 31.8% of the route (by distance) is road. I'm surprised it's as much as that. Not doubting your figures, I suppose it's due to most of the roads on the route being singletrack roads that you hardly see any cars on! Yep, also the road sections are a lot faster and i've based my calc...

Re: Highland Trail Sweepstake - don't be shy.

I know it has been dry, therefore faster, but this week is a bit damp so that will soften the top layer a bit..... I dont think it's been as damp up here as it has been further south. We've still had reports of wildfires every couple of days and everything is very dry. We're close enough now that w...

You can get semi-circular profile bars from lidl. Not ritter branded (Favorina, I think?). 99p for 100g bar.

Looking at this http://trackleaders.com/highland17i.php?name=Michael_Wilcock It might be that he's not turned the unit on this morning. That's what I thought initially too. It looks like the track has stopped at Melgarve bothy but looking further back it wasnt an overnight stop. It was 9:30 am yest...

Yep.

The road between Ledmore Junction and Oykel bridge is currently closed due to wildfire. It was closed a couple of days ago then reopened but now it's been closed again.

There's not that many with a group start really: HT550; Cairngorms Loop; YD2/300; Braunton 150; Capital Trail.; probably a couple more. This was really behind my thinking - all the above are there to ride at any point throughout the year but not many people actually seem to. Is that because in peop...

Thank you Whitestone. No need to make this trip more expensive then needed. Does anybody know how in general the conditions on the route are at the moment? 'Normal', or very dry, wet, boggy, etcetera? I rode the "path of 1000 puddles" yesterday. I think we'll need to rename it the "p...

Not something i'd recommend on a big ride. Imagine the scenario where... What happens when the pump breaks? Some things are always carried in multiples. This is why there are so many kit list posts and discussions on here. A large part of bikepacking is about balancing the risks of what kit you tak...
