Re: Dead Exped Downmat - yours for postage if you want it (re-use the down?)

It's yours Reg. Email me your deets and I'll post it. Full disclosure - I'm keeping the useful bits like the inflation bag, stuff sack, repair kit etc. You just get a mat with a massive hernia and the odd slobber-stain.

Dead Exped Downmat - yours for postage if you want it (re-use the down?)

Aye aye Old-ish Downmat (probably a 7.0) suffered pretty catastrophic failure of several baffle welds which has rendered it useless. Does anyone want it to scavenge the down? It really is useless, maybe as an incredibly heavy and sh1t pillow if you tied off one end. Always inflated by bag so imagine...

Re: Wiggle goes into administration

Very sad to hear about both. Wiggle (and CRC before they were bought) were the source of a huge amount of my cycling "stuff" since I started back in the 1990s. My kids have had Isla bikes all the way through and many have gone on to mates kids. I was a convert to them after the first balan...

Re: Baselayer recommendations?

In true forum style of doing / recommending the complete opposite when Sportspursuit ran a discount for IsoBaa last night I picked up a couple of their thin (150 gsm) T shirts for not much more than one of an equivalent or full-price brand. I like their socks so hope the T's will be similarly nice :...

Re: Baselayer recommendations?

Huge Brynje fan here. I have both the short and long sleeve super thermo varieties. I sometimes wear two baselayers with the Brynje underneath, particularly if I know it's going to be wet I think I'd combust / dry out to the shrivelled-scrotum level Stu mentioned elsewhere with 2 baselayers

Re: Baselayer recommendations?

Fairpoints and you're clearly keen / it's a thing that works for you (and others from feedback elsewhere). If it were just for biking maybe (though the prices are a bit spicey) but I use stuff for biking (less so than I ever used to), walking, climbing, packrafting etc etc and (not least) sitting on...

Re: Baselayer recommendations?

Thanks all, there's some useful suggestions in there, much appreciated. Even from some of them I can tell stuff that I probably don't want to try (Craft for example, I don't feel the cold so much) The Patagonia, Helly and Decathalon stuff (even though the latter is full merino) look like pote...

Outdry. I kill regular hardshells and DWR treatments so, for all Outdry's "faults", it's the best thing for me

I have some PX bags if you want them? Red and orange (one of each). Can't remember volume but say if of interest and will confirm.

Not sure about exact material weights but Lomo and Overboard certainly do heavier weight versions.

Baselayer recommendations?

My Howies merino stuff is starting to develop holes and wear very thin in places. My BAM stuff is OK but bit heavy / bulky so I'm thinking of a new layer or two. I run hot and sweat like a beast. They don't need to be bike specific (in truth I'd rather they weren't) so those a little more toward the...

If you want the legal status consult the Definitive RoW Map and Schedule that should be held and maintained by the local authority. Usually available on line and/or through the RoW "team" (might not be called that in different Authorities). There are probably lots of nuances and provisos b...

Re: BB200 - a few thoughts.

How can a "challenge" event be "inclusive" for all abilities? Surely the whole point is for it to be hard and by it's nature too hard for some. That's no criticism of those who can't or don't (I'm in both categories) but it doesn't make it un-inclusive.

Re: Sleeping on it

Interesting how Stu kinda rates his SD higher than his Cumulus quilt(s). They're much cheaper too. Wonder if they come in lower than 20F There were only two models - 20 or 35 degree (NB: Fahrenheit), IIRC. I've not kept up with prices but I didn't think they were particularly cheap. Admittedly sinc...

Re: Ham Curious

You can, though whether it stays in place is anyone's guess. My only experience is with a bridge style which is rather different to a gathered end. One other trick is to only partly inflate the mat so it conforms to the sleeper a bit more and is more likely to stay put. Hammocks also tend to cause c...

You may know this but if not please make sure you use straps that will spread the load on a tree trunk. Commonly referred to as "tree straps", literally what it says on the tin  The combo of a bodyweighted hammock and the narrow, high strength suspension lines can damage (through comp...

Re: Bike musings sonder camino vs colibri vs onone freeranger

I had a Camino and found the toe-overlap unbearable. Plenty of other people manage fine so maybe it was me and my set-up, though I didn't have the issue on either a Singular Gryphon or ... .. the Titus Goldrush I replaced in with. I fell lucky with PX pricing and offers but at the time got the Titus...
