Re: Opinions on camouflage tarps?

Never actually seen one :D It's not something I've ever used. IMO anything camo' seems to indicate cheap/nasty ... except flatfishys super winter palace, hammock tarp which is neither ;) And more expensive, the big tart  There's camo and there's CAMO, if you get my drift. Personally I'm not a ...

Handlebar Kit Carrying Products

Which do folks rate best: Revelate's Sling - temporarily out of stock but only $30 (plus of course slightly more P+P and potentially customs charges) or Wildcatgear's Mountain Lion at £50 (plus delivery). Was looking for an alternative to my bikepacking bar bag. I like it but it's a bit long for one...

Re: 29" tyres - any good deals about?

Glad it was of some use 8-)

There are horror stories about JE when stuff is out of stock and getting generally yanked around (IIRC) but of the few orders I've done with them it's all been fine.

In fact it's reminded me the Gryphon might go well with a set of those

Think I saw some cheapish stuff at On One / Planet X or (if you feel like chancing them) JE James (ad in the back of MBR). Sorry can't be more specific.

Re: Loch Etive/Glen Kinglass Circular invitation.

Enjoy. Back when I used to climb I spent a couple of trips camped on the shores of Loch Etive. Rained like an absolute bagstard every time and flooded out. Had to retreat to a club hut in the Lakes (student logic :? ).

Re: Shoes

It might be my old and worn crocs or the model but, IMO, they're bloody lethal in the wet, like wearing a pair of banana skins. They're one of the last thing I'd want to use for the average river crossing. By-the-bye, my old ma took a flyer on a wet kitchen floor and got a colius (?) fracture with a...

Re: Supertanker of Meths

I think they "methylate" the alcohol to stop it being put to other "uses". IIRC France tends to acidify theirs and it burns a lot cleaner and is ridculously cheap in comparison. I miss my Easter trips to Font' and "smuggling" back 5 litre cans of highly flammable on the...

Stu - I suppose the subsequent question is how often / how important is it that you can pitch in the potential variety of positions a regular tarp offers?

Look forward to hearing about your experiences in use.

Re: Anyone use a 'caternary cut' tarp?

It looks like it has a very " specific" cut. Does that mean you lose a lot of versatility / pitching options?

Just curious. Looks very alien

Re: Bear Bones jerseys coming soon?

Who you using to do them Stu? I've had stuff done for STA before using thecyclejersey.com. They were great guys to deal with and the price was good but the cut of the tops was a bit weird, sadly enough to make me not want to use them again (unless it's changed it was several years ago). One of the g...

Re: Quilts?

 sorry I asked  Edit: "UK use" was just shorthand for using it in the typical conditions we get locally, not that conditions here were in some way "epic" or the like. I though "a bit cold and wet" summed it up rather well but then I guess how that got read is ...

Hey, whatever floats your boat folks. Re: Quilts?

I don't get the point. They seem expensive and heavy (well, not massively lighter) for what they are when a lightweight bag will do much of it, and be more versatile in the long run (assuming its got a full length zip). I'm assuming UK use and I've never used them myself, just can't get the logic. A...

Re: Cheap digital compact camera recommendations anyone?

I have a mju tough 3005 and I don't rate it. This maybe operator error but compared to a couple of Sony compacts and a cheap Canon it's been pretty poor. I like the concept of weather / dust proofing but just find the usability and performance of the settings poor compared to others I've used. I am ...

Variety of stuff sacs / net bags because you can't have too many bags (said Mr West to his wife as he went out to the pat...

I imagine you'd also gete compression of the fabric stretching in the holes of the hammock so also reducing the insulation thickness / loft.
