Re: Thermarest Haven -6°C (20°F) Sleeping Bag?
If 600g of down at 0'c was cold, 300g ain't going to cut it, certainly not without a well insulated mat that will offset any weight savings and loose its versatility.

Re: Mountain Equipment Helium 400 XL (Or Alpkit Skyhigh)
2 different bags really, the ME has 400g of down against 600g of the Alpkit. Both use the same spec down so the Alpkit is bound to be heavier and bulkier as its a warmer bag.
The ME would make for a great 3 season bag if you specifically need the XL size.

http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q292/Cillit-BANG/IMAG0289_zpsc1566dec.jpg UL version of the Exped air pillow. 44g on the scales and plenty of plump! Shape is interesting as it provides various head positions, so hopefully I'll finally find one that let's me sleep better. New into UK and from UOG...

Re: Bivi spots in the dark peak
Winhill has good tree cover if you drop down to the top of Parkin Clough (a great ascent to walk) There are plenty of scattered big rocks at the trigpoint but not a lot to gain shelter from iirc. Great views esp at night as the distant town lights come on. The Stannage caves are into the edge. Not r...

Re: Bivi spots in the dark peak
Caves in Stannage Edge are fun, although can be over popular. Alport Castles, Kinder Low, Win Hill all fav's but it depends on what you're looking for. Are you looking for tree cover? Views? Btw, park up in built up areas. We had a chat with one of the friendly rangers a while ago and he had no prob...

Depending on your handlebar harness you may not need the loops, I know I don't.
I much prefer the Exped ones as I find the shape/material much easier to pack.

Re: permission to rant!!!
Most of my small lightweight rucksack's (15-25L) would weigh under 1kg packaged up and will fold up fine to fit in the £3 1st class bracket. But yes, to agree, the new prices do take some getting your head around. We currently post 30-50 items per day and we're having to look into other options via ...

Re: Multi day trip meths
Depends how much your stove uses to boil 500ml of water (indoor tests very misleading). For me, that would be 20+20+20+ spare 20-40mls depending on extra drinks, per day.
I'd probably stash 2x 250ml bottles within my framebag for such a trip.

Exped Air Pillow
Are they really any better than the £2-3 grey generic pillows? By better I mean comfort. I've tried all the usual things but I really struggle to sleep without a decent soft pillow.

The very new Thomson Ti flat bar
730mm so not overly huge, feel lovely though. A birthday present to myself!
Ridiculously heavy and horrendous £££ but the Cotic build is more trail happy than trail fast :!:

Re: Tarp? No pole? No problem!
Very good Stu, the good thing with the bike being perpendicular to tarp is that entry into it is more dignified! Here's my preferred setup which keeps bike upright, plus it free's up wheel for supporting other end. Excuse the myriad of guys, they're overkill but I was experimenting with foul weather...
