Re: Bargain Alert Thread
Packs of 4 40g 9bars were two for £2.50 in Waitrose yesterday, which is cheaper (by weight) than buying a box of 16 50g bars off the 9bar website. Choice of flavours too.

Re: Bargain Alert Thread
Ditto comments about superstar wheels on crests above. I got mine in the summer as a backup/winter pair for about £220 as no one else could get close to that price with 29er Crest rims. About 1775g the pair, so not that heavy. Have managed a good few miles without issue, probably more than I expecte...

The boredom of road riding at night is killing me...Does anybody have any tips on keeping the motivation going Some random thoughts that might help: Commuting gives you purpose to the boredom. Re: Winter bivi/bothy/hammock gala 2012 (England?)
I'm going to be a DNS unfortunatley.
Excuses: riding in Wales the weekend before / realised how far I'll have to drive home on Sunday evening / starting new job on Monday 3rd so doubtful I can get an early finish on Friday...the list is long enough to throw the towel in.
Hope it goes well.

Re: Weight weenyism
Interesting about the sheared scandium frame. Hope it wasn't a Niner! (Can only think of On One, or maybe Kinesis?) Thought I'd just reiterate that the scandium choice was made because I'm not a big fan of carbon, and my trust in titanium didn't match the price. However, this is a weight weenie thre...

Re: Weight weenyism
Ahh, yes. Scandium. Didn't have that on my list - probably because I saw one fail spectacularly at the CLIC24 some years back & nearly impale the rider  Light I know, but robust enough for bikepacking duties and not a bit of an 'aluminium' ride? (am getting old & need comfort :-)) So...

Re: Weight weenyism
titanium is always pitched as the one material that you can 'have for life'....is it really 'true'? No. A titanium tube will last forever. A titanium frame seems to have a lifespan of 8-10 years max. It seems to be near impossible to weld two titanium tubes together without weakening the finished a...

Re: Weight weenyism
No point in taking a 100g bivvy bag if you rip it getting into it the first time you use it (and you're on a 4/5 day Highland Trail race). Make sure it's not StupidLite. As Cheeky Monkey says, go and weigh you tyres / wheels. Spending £300 losing 500g rotating mass will be worth more than the same m...

Can we have a DNA test on said wrappers please? I binned the used packets in my pockets whenever I could (dam toilets/Pont- pub/YH) so I'm unable to say whether I lost anything on the trail. I sincerely tried not to, mostly using the zip pocket on the front of my jacket and leaving the heavy items i...

I hadn't heard about the Highland Trail event next year. Looks great and piqued my interest (although technically I'm having a quiet year next year ).

Re: BB 200 ... and so it begins
Roy As slarge says, just keep pushing the bike. My low patch on Carnau was mostly due to having to repeatedly lift the bike as well as push, which, with my puny upper body strength, finally cracked me. Once we were pedalling again I was fine. :) By the finish I was wondering whether I could bicycle ...

A successful ride for me. Went out to go sub-24 and succeeded at 22.25hrs, with more than a little suffering during the last 50 miles. My usual riding partner Chris n was on a 2day strategy so the plan was ride together until the devils staircase then I'd push on through the night. Chris' head wasn'...

Packed. ~35lb without water but with a lot of food and not enough bivvy kit to make it less miserable to stop for the night.
3 1/2 hour drive starting stupid-o-clock tomorrow morning. Seeya all about 9am. :)

Food is my biggest bug bear...could try to survive on energy bars and malt loaf! :D You just need to mix it up a bit: pain au chocs/croissants, cashews/peanuts, enegry bars/gels, chocolate/haribo for when you're feeling miserable. My personal pick-me-up insta-food is pepperami and (not at the same ...

Nearly there with my kit. Food bought, gear and bags sorted, lights charged, waterproofs re-proofed. Just the bike now to deal with now, which is covered in mud from last nights ride. Might also need to investigate the strange noises coming from the free hub and fit a new bottom bracket though :? I...

Ian, I mulled this over during the weekend and I'm going to leave them, sorry.
I think what I really want is a Diablo for £65 We'll see how far into winter I get before I get bored being a cheapskate.
Back to plan A for the BB200: my two AA-powered Fenix torches.

Re: FS: Exposure Lights - Race & Enduro
A bit of googling suggest these are circa 2007 and, possibly the end of my interest in them, Exposure didn't put the piggyback port on the back until later models (I already have a piggyback battery that I'd want to use with this). Correct?

Might be interested in one of these.
What vintage are these? Is the Enduro the predecessor of the Maxx / Maxx-D? What Mk is the Race? What's the weight of the lights? Lumens and current run times on full?

Ditto would like to see a pic of that! I was pretty happy with my rigid geared scandium Niner at 20.5 lbs (including Mt Zoom Ti QRs which are probably similar to your Tune ones).Anthony wrote:But did get some beautiful Tune QR's to take my now Fixed Wheel Lynskey 69er to 16lb 10oz
