Oh I missed the bit where you're new to bike packing. I'd definitely want to get out there and do it for a while first so you get a feel for your own priorities.

Re: Frameset for BikePacking

I did exactly this, but based the frame on a combination of the Singular Pegasus and Swift geometry that I'd ridden a lot, taking the bits from each that worked for me. I would definitely echo Kevin's suggestion about the top tube...I had mine raised by an inch or so (the TT/ST junction) and even a ...

Re: What big trip for 2013?

Also entered for the Highland Trail race in Scotlandshire I so much wanted to do this but it falls on the same weekend as the WRT  Yeah I'm gutted I'll be missing the WRT :-( We talking about the same c2c? Whitehaven to Newcastle/Sunderland is crap but I thought the St Bees to Robin Hoods Bay ...

Re: What big trip for 2013?

I heard the same thing from a mate who rode it a few years ago, which is one of the reasons I opted to do the Highlands c2c instead this year!

Re: What big trip for 2013?

I researched that coast to coast route last year & have a GPX if you ever decide to go ahead with it ;)

Not really a "big" trip, but I've signed up for the Highland Trail in May.

ok well let us know if/when you think it's a runner as we're quite liking the idea of a b&b on the Friday night, along with a full Welsh brekkie

How many more do you need Stuart? I think I've recruited another two poor lost souls. They've done the WRT twice, you'd think they'd know better.

A friend of mine has ridden there for a week (guided, but point to point) and he reckons it's the best riding he's ever done. Definitely on my bucket list.

Re: Is it always about the bike?

Same as Ian, I'd love to get into lots of other things, including hiking, but I just don't have the time if I want to cycle relatively "seriously". I can see myself hiking more when I'm (a lot!) older :D

Re: Outdoor Fitness mag.

Found it :D . Interesting article, along with the (albeit a bit dated) account of the Tour Divide. There's even a roadie singlespeed training guide in there, so all in all quite a worthwhile read. I like the way they say that east-west has more descending than climbing on the TCW. Well yes, but 15,1...

Re: 'Low carb' diet

9 bars are vaguely exciting for riding, though loaded with sugar Ian so not actually low carb ;) After much trial & error, I've decided that Snickers bars are the best riding snacks for me. I just can't maintain the low carb thing when doing longer rides. 133 miles & 4 snickers last Sunday, ...

A-frame with the option to have beak(s) would be ace. Very interested in how you're going to achieve such a versatile tarp!

Yep agree with FF, they're pretty tasty in my experience. My favourite so far is the pasta with lasagne sauce (big size of course :D )
