Re: The post man's been ...

My quilt from Enlightened arrived today. Really impressed with the quality, especially for just over £150 delivered (no customs charges). This is the Revelation X model, 10degF, non-overstuffed, wide. It's got huge loft, the overstuffed one must be mental. 720 grams on my scales. http://i1059.photob...

Re: Wildcat Tiger Drybag

Ian, do you think Beth is likely to go ahead with making a larger Tiger? I for one could really benefit from one that'll hold a dry bag with a larger diameter..I'm thinking 10 to 12 litres.

Quick Ridgeway overnighter

Making the most of the weather, I popped up to the Ridgeway near Avebury with a mate last weekend to try out a spot I've had my eye on for a while. I think it may have been the first bivy this year where I haven't been rained on! I wanted to try out my new Hexamid shelter before a Dartmoor trip this...

Crikey, that's a bargain & only a tiny bit heavier than my Niner forks. Make sure you get the 470mm ones though!

Re: Cotic 'Solaris'

I reckon you've got it spot on. I've recently been shopping around for a "fun" 29er frame so I can keep my rigid bikepacking & long distance racing frame as just that. It was between a few frames (Ritchey P29, Niner SIR9 and Cotic Simple - which is exactly the same as a Solaris but sin...

Sportpursuit have some Sea to Summit gear at the moment. Not a huge choice, but the 10L eVENT dry bag looks interesting. http://www.sportpursuit.com/sales/sea-to-summit

Is that the same tiny stove that Ian had on the Beacons overnighter a couple of weeks ago?

Re: Wet the bed.

I'd never fully close up the main body of the Soul (the eVENT bit), but there's also an integrated strip of bug netting that I do zip up if I want to keep the worst of the wind out. If it's pouring with rain and you don't have a tarp over your head then you can use the double zippers on the main eVE...

Re: Multi Tools - what's good?

Ah ok I thought you wanted it all in one. The Squirt seems pretty effective for something so small. It's not super heavy duty or anything but I reckon the pliers would be properly useful rather than flimsy (which I originally thought they might be before I handled one). That said, if you want someth...

Re: Multi Tools - what's good?

I really like the Topeak Toolbar . Nice & light and you only need to carry the attachment bits that are relevant to your bike. I think they're discontinuing them though in favour of the Ratchet multitool. Obviously it doesn't have pliers, but I'm not aware of a decent bike tool that does...which...

I can recommend the MLD Soul eVENT bivy as totally waterproof & very breathable, but it is quite expensive.

Re: Freeload Racks - Sold to Thule

Wow that stuff in the last link just looks so...heavy. I get it that ultralight rackless bike bags aren't suitable for every tourer out there, but there must be a middle ground that doesn't mean you have to hoik around god knows how many kgs of bags on yer bike.

Re: The humble dry bag - much used, not often discussed

I've been using an Alpkit Airlok Xtra on the front for quite a while, though now I have a custom cuben dry bag that will hopefully replace it. Other than that, I've just picked up a load of smaller cuben dry bags (all from Zpac ks) to hold various items and to use in the Tiger at the back. The Airlo...

Well I received my cheapo thermal leggings from Sportsdirect this morning & they're spot on. Nothing fancy, but fairly light & packable and they feel decently warm, and of course extremely cheap!
